im helping a mate put his new head unit in. i've put my own stereo in my car and its not hard but we are stuck on his VB since we do not know which colour is which speaker/ power and so forth. hoping someone can help us...
Light green: Front +
Dark green: Front -
Light blue: Rear -
Brown: Rear +
Grey: Goes to a spliced joint for the power antenna. Ignore if not needed.
Yellow: +12VDC
Add a black wire and attach it to the chassis for ground.
My technique would be to place new wiring for the speakers if you have a 4 speaker system installed. The old set up is a bit weird and out of date. That is of course if you have put more speakers in. Don't use the existing speaker wiring for newer set ups. It won't work because the front and rear speakers have a common ground at the original head unit and besides there is only two speakers.
I just had another thought. If you wanted, you could run 4 speakers off two speaker outputs by running the speakers in series but the only problem would be it would have an 8 ohm load on each output of the head unit and could cook it if it was turned up enough. Virtually all car speakers have 4 ohm coils.
