    Default Disk brake rear end

Will the disc brake setup off a Salisbury diff bolt up to a Borg Warner diff? Got me a borgy wagon diff a few weeks ago, got the LSD this morning for it, and have found another diff which has discs on it but it's a Salisbury.

If the Salisbury discs won't work, how's about VN ones? Apparently they fit but sumfin ain't right with the oil seal?

Someone must be able to help me out wth this?? If not, does anyone know anyone who would know? I rekon I'd know more about this then our local Holden lads, so I won't even bother trying to ask them (it took 2 of their staff about 10 minutes to find out Holden used the M76 trans, to start with they told me they've never used it coz it ain't on their puters).

from memory all the old comodores used the same disk setup. however as you mentioned, the oil seals for the disk brake setup is different to the drum brake setup ( i think the oil seal for the drum brake setup is thicker causing the axle to sit out slightly wider) to do the conversion you need the entire disk assembly including the backing plate

There is a spacer ring that needs to be fitted as well I think.

gregories shows that the disk brake rear end has the thicker oil seal. other then that there are no differences that i can see for the shafts. you will also need to modify the hard brakelines to suit the disk setup (if you have flare tool etc you can do it yourself)

When you press the bearing on, there is a spacer ring that must be fitted to the axle on disc brake diffs. This makes room for the thicker oil seal, I'm sure of it, although it has been a long time since doing one of these.

Oh, and you will also need to swap the hand brake assembly over.

you sure your not thinking about the ring that is a press fit to retain the bearing/seal.

if he gets the correct backing plate for a disk setup the handbrake assembly should come with it (you'd hope anyways)

Nope, did a bit of a hunt around and found the part number 92001614. It goes on before the bearings. Spacer ring-seal(disc brake specific)-bearing-retainer, in that order.

OK, it's model specific, on the VH(and i assume earlier models), there is a spacer for the disk brake models but it looks like they use the same oil seal. on VK models there isn't a spacer but the oil seal for the disk brake models is thicker.
