Question VK - Air Pump removal?

    Gentlemen,

I am removing the Air Pump from a VK Black 202, I will be blocking the ports in the head. Is there anything else I have to do or watch out for?

    Thanks

    Philby

Thanks Tom, I'm in SA so it's pretty 'relaxed' here but I do appreciate the advice.

I did the job 5 years ago on the VK and it has been over the pits in the NT for rego a number of times without issue.

What's the air pump? I have looked at my manuals and found no reference to it. What does it look like and what does it do?

The air pump is located at the top passenger side of the donk. It pumps air through the exhaust ports to help get rid of gasses or sumfin. I took mine off of my VH, just unbolted it all, removed the piping and bought some high tensile bolts to screw into the head where the pipes went.

A few months later the VH got defected but there was nuthin bout the air pump on the defect notice, the cop didn't know. The same motor is now in my VK and I don't plan on using the air pump on it.

Thanks. Does anyone have any further information about it or pictures and diagrams?

I'll be able to get some info soon, my gregories manual has a bit of info on it....but I just got a new computer and haven't set up the printer/scanner, so as soon as I do I'll scan up the article and post it.

I also got another VC-VK manual on my computer so if I can find anything in that I'll post it up.

May be mistaken but I thought I heard it was there to dilute the exhaust gas components to help it pass emission standards. Bit like weighing yourself with your belly resting on the vanity top. The scales dont know the difference but every one in the room knows the result is bullsh*t.

All I know is, it's a horsepower thief and it's extra moving parts that I don't need.
