hey all. i just filled up the vh with bp ultimate as i usually do. i ran it way into the red also as i usually do, however this time the bowser says i put in 61.5 litres!! its only a 63L tank and its got quite a few dents so i'd say less than that now. the most i have ever put in before this is 55L and it was starting to fuel surge cuz i was going up a hill...now if i had a brand new tank with no dents 1.5L of fuel spread out across the tank i think I'd be having some issues keeping it alive!!!
my question is was i ripped off??? i have always been sceptical of fuel bowsers, i was too tired and the guy that served me was Indian so he wouldn't know what i was on about if i did argue bout it so i didn't...it also cost me $88
anyone else had this sorter thing happen to them??
i cant say ive been aware of it mate, but it probably happens to all of us all the time.. we just dont pay enough attention. something going on there for sure eh
We always seem to run our cars dry just about, sometimes it gets a little bit below the red and we'll go chuck $20 in, didn't think nothin of it, but twice now we've taken it as low as b4 and it's start cutting out coz of the lack of fuel.....so I can't believe how many times we've been so close to running out. Oneday we ran out of petty on the way to get Mum brekky for her birthday (from macca's haha :P), was gonna go chuck some petty in on the way home but then had to call another brother to come grab us so we could go fill up a jerry can. The other time we were on our way to the petty station and it started cutting out. We were only a few corners away so I kept it goin, even tho it was slow.....and as soon as I pulled into the petty station she conked out and I rolled up to the bowser.....was funny as!!

yer i run mine down low too to reach 400km to the tank, but it always only ever puts in around 52-55L except this time...
also i put regular unleaded in it the other day for the first time because i had already got out of the car before i realised i pulled up to the wrong pump. i put 35 bucks in. i knew it would ping alot which it did under power but was surprised to find that it had quite a bit more low down torque!
anyways I'll run it right down again and fill up at a different servo and i'll let u know the results.
here in NZ the bouwsers need to be checked and calibrated. not sure how often but their is normally a little sticker somewhere on it to say when it's next due etc have a look, i'd imagine it would be similar in aussie

I would contact the RACQ or The Office of fair trading for advice, perhaps they could conduct an audit on the bowser.
the factory tank holds 65L in sedan and 68L in wagon, so if u put 61L in to the brim then it seems about right to me. although i must admit to sometimes feeling like it don't look right when filling up, but i think its mainly my imagination.
BTW if u fill up at night, you will get more fuel 4 ya money since its not as hot and therefore the fuel is more stable.
also...the lower the octane the fuel is, the cooler the engine runs - yankee fuel is 87 octane thats why leaded was called super in the old days 87 Regular, 97 Super!!!
then the barstards lowered it to 96. grrrrrr!!!!!
all commodores pre 1986 (pre-unleaded) as stated in the log book require 97 octane, so really we need 2 run em on the 98 octane juice...
and anyway, i have an excuse 4 running out of fuel right at the servo since my gauge has been faulty for many years...lol although i have never experienced surging b4 running dry.......
Just blame the Indian Dude....
