i have a 4cyl VB wagon in a good mechanical condtion with only a lil surface rust from where the paint has weathered through and just wondering how much something like this would be worth
$300 with good tyres? i only paid $150 for one with good paint and a 6 cylinder manual.... had bald tyres tho prolly why it was so cheap
ooooh the 4 cyl. hahah the 'misfire' 4. to be honest not that much, yea prob $300 since the engine is very meh.
for such a heavy car they put such a small engine with little technology to make the most of a small engine, i wouldnt be surprised if the engine is on its way out cause its been thrashed to make it go! hahaha
pics? i would love to see the condition
give u a case of beer for it

The only thing the misfire has going for it is its bigger brother, old redand the pushrods, they good too.
My old duck had one of those and she broke it, it tryed to make a milkshake.....
there we go mate. there's a pic of the the little power plant. that mass open space is where the radiator shroud used to go but i was running a thermo fan to hopefully gain a few more ponies, it didnt work.
the germans designed it, the aussies built it, the japs got it moving and the wogs got it dosing...
jeez thats small
The radiator hoses must cost alot they are about 10 meters long![]()
1.9 litres to be precise. My first car was a VC 4cyl. The biggest problem wasn't the amount of horsepower they put out, rather the low gearing Holden set them up with. Being simply a cut down version of the six the things weren't built to rev, they were torquers just like the sixes. The best thing I did to mine was to replace the 3.9 diff with a 3.08. I have very fond memories of that car, ahh to be 17 again. Some bastard ended up nicking the thing, never got it back either. By modern standards they are under powered, but when you consider their competition at the time was the Datsun 200B and Mitsubishi Sigma, they were in the ballpark.
cutting away the sides on the standard aircleaner body made a noticealble difference to mine.Streetmachine did some dyno testing on a blue 202 and found a 14kw gain from the same modification. Also replacing the hydraulic lifters and reseating the valves made a noticable difference, that was at 120000klm back in the days of leaded fuel.
wasn't there a turbo version back in a VB...??Seen a pic of 1 sumwhere.
Tony 308vkcalais:
Not from the factory. The SF4 ran in the VC and VH only and certainly no turbo version.
yer mate ive heard of doing that. i got my hands on a air cleaner assembly off a 202 it had a larger intake on it then the standard item.
before that i was running cold air intake, i had sum piping going down to the front of the stone tray, ran it like that 4 ages then decided to check my air filter to find it was full of leaves dead insects and 1 or 2 cigerrete butts..... i really didnt notice any gain in power with either setup
308vk calais. u mentioned about a turbo model.ive never heard of it being offered as an option on the 4's but i believe there was a factory turbo option on the vh 6's. there is no record of any being sold and there isnt alot of info on em..
the germans designed it, the aussies built it, the japs got it moving and the wogs got it dosing...
I had 2 of these 4 cyl VC's, one was on gas, they werent a bad car at all the auto one was a bit slow, but the 4 speed manual one wasn't to bad at all, it was on gas and went pretty good for a 1.9 litre.
Cheers Damien"SL/ENUT" Smith, The SL/E Fanatic!
A lucky owner of 2 SL/E Commodores, a rare VB SL/E and a 2 tone VC SL/E. Just need a VH SL/E and have the set!
found this info on a calais turbo turbo thread....
"Holden did not make a commo turbo before the VL, but HDT did "improve" a select few VC 202's with a turbo. I remember reading about this in a mag - never seen one in real life. apparently VERY few were made (10 from memory), and almost unheard of too. Have fun tracking any of them down - or any information for that matter"
"My mistake above - it seems that Garrett made turbo kits for the Red and Blue 202's in the late 70's early 80's, and apparently some dealers put them
on VC's before selling them as a Dealer Option (hence sfa info about them)"
i cant find any info on a factory turbo option, but yer as u said sl/enut there were sum aftermarket turbo kits made by garret for them...
i allways wondered how the starfire would go with a hairdryer strapped to the side of it..![]()
the germans designed it, the aussies built it, the japs got it moving and the wogs got it dosing...
im guessing a vh 4cylinder sedan would be around the same price range
(im looking for one) and trying to get prices
