    Default VN diff in VK

Is it possible to put a VN diff center into a VK and if so, how would I go about doing it? Would I need VN axles and tailshaft modified?

go to u pull it or equilivent and get a vl diff, take it to diff place and get them to cut down some vn axles then do what u want with the centre, mini spool, lsd what ever. this is what boss differentals have told me to do and i reckon i will

Why not go for a vl turbo diff 28 spline 3.45:1 ratio (standard) bolts straight up to the VK

So, the VL diff will hook up to the VK tailshaft and axles no problem?

Also, the car will be spooled and have 3.9 gears, therefore I would need a open VL diff and will it be as strong as the VLT diff?

i think the tailshaft is slightly differen so use the vl v8 tailshaft but other from that its all good ,atm im looking at 4.11 minispooled gears for my VK,so ill get the gears out or a pintara and use them in the vl 28 spline diff,or maybee even just get another vl diff for the conversion to 4.11 minispooled version, does this make sense

Open centre VL diffs (borg warners) are only 2 pinion, while the VL turbo diff and VL V8 diff are 4 pinion...so are pretty much double the strength. The 4 pinion diffs are also 28 spline. The VN diff (and onwards) are also 28 spline, and I also heard the other day that they are 4 pinion also, so pretty much if u want a good diff for ur VK I'd be getting a borg warner diff housing out of the later VK's (VK's first come out with Salisbury's, then later had borg warner diffs), then use the centre out of a VN diff, and also use VN axles and get them shortened. Then choose which gears u want and throw them into the combo too.

On the other hand if ur gonna chuck a minispool in it ya don't need to worry about the strong 4 pinion centre coz u won't be using it anyway. With the spool ya pull the spiders gears out the centre and put the spool in which replaces them. So just get the VK borg warner housing, use any carrier, put ur gears on it, then chuck the spool in (make sure u get a 28 spline spool to suit the VN axles). And yeah the shortened VN axles will be the go.

Oh yeah and with the tailshaft.....if u have a 6 cylinder, the tailshaft isn't as big (diameter) as the V8 shaft. The easiest way around that is to find a VK with a borg warner diff (alot of the EFI 202's had the BW diff) and pinch the tailshaft out of that...that will fit up no worries.

If u have an 8, well ur current tailshaft should bolt up to the VL/VN tailshaft without any drama's. You use the front of ur tailshaft, and the rear of the borg warner tailshaft.

i got a vn diff in my vk. The wheel track is a little wider and it does scrub a bit, but not too bad. I am running 18's though

EDIT: BTW nissan pintara 4cylinder uses borgy 4.11 gears

So, Huitzi, did you have to get your axles shortened though?
    cheers for the feedback btw

if you use vl v8 axles no but make sure the minispool is a 28 spline and not the 25 spline and like i said use the v8 axles or vl turbo axles .....there the same thing both 28 spline the vl 6 cylinder non turbo is 25 spline

Yeah the only advantage to using VN axles over VL V8 or turbs axles is they're 10x easier to get.

Yer, good point there, hence why I wanted to use VN stuff.

How much does it cost to shorten the VN axles anyway, just out of curiosity?

what i would like to know is where are they shortened from "the spline end"? if so it would be easy to do yourself once you had one done to get the length? If not from the spline end it would defiantly an expensive exercise.

I'm not sure how much it costs coz I haven't looked into it......but yes they chop the spline end down to ur requirements and re-spline it. The most expensive part of it all is probably getting the end re-splined.

need to change 2nd part of tail shaft, use the vn axles coz they r easier to find than vl turbo or v8 axles.
ive been told by diff place that vl housing with cut down vn axles and mini spool is a strong cheep combo

Yer I think I'll go with a VN housing though cos they're easier to find. Btw are the VN V8 centers any stronger than the V6???
