    Default Trimatic speedo...

    Hi Guys,

I need to know what happens with the trimatic and trip computer?

from what I understand the trimatic has a cable speedo - yet the trip computer option on vh/vk would require a digital speed signal?

does anyone have a wiring diagram for the speedo/trip computer circuit? does anyone know how this works?

Please correct me if im wrong but i believe the speedo cable from the Trimatic goes to the transducer and converts the signal from a geared signal to an electric pulse, and the wires coming from the transducer carry that pulse to the electronic dash.

fantastic - where is the transducer located? do you know if it's built into the dash/speedo mechanism? or is it a separate unit? Does anyone know PPK for the stock setup? (trimatic + 3.08's or whatever they ran?)

    cheers,
    Luke

    cheers for that!!!

Is there anythign written in that book about a speedo 'transducer' ? apparently there's a cable that goes from the box to the engine bay somewhere to a transducer?! - any wiring diagrams that include that?

    cheers

From what I understand this 'transducer' is part of the cruise control? with crazy action vacuum lines going everywhere?

Then there is a speed sensor that connects to the transducer?

does anyone else have any fun ideas on how to get an electronic speed signal out of the trimatic box? (short of custom making a VSS to suit the speedo driven gear assembly)

Ye the transducer is a part of the cruise controll but in saying that also the cruise controll doesnt need to be hooked up in order for the transducer to work....does this make sense.

As for fun ideas on how to get another way to get an electonic speed signal, No ideas at all sorry.

I guess worst case scenario I will try source a VK calais transducer - I gave a quick call to the wreckers and they sound pretty rare (they haven't had a VK calais in for ages!) - I guess this means they'll be expensive

I still have to work out how many pulses per revolution the VK speed sensor makes? and whether a VN sensor or a VL sensor would fit onto the transducer speed sensor fitting.

Ultimately, I'll spend a day at the wreckers on the weekend playing with bits and peices from random cars and see if I can get a setup working directly on the side of the trans - as it seems a bit silly to have a speedo cable and half the calais cruise control for something that shuold really just be done in one small unit on the side of the box! - plus it saves prescious engine bay real estate
