How to Open Standard Air Box on Blue motor VB

This probably sounds like a stupid question, but my mates VB commo has a Blue I-6 carby motor.. Were trying to put new standard air filter in but the box seems as if its welded shut! (spot-welded on the bottom, tight as hell on the edge's)

Not sure if its from a different model but all it has on it is GMH. (snorkel style)
Is it just a Rip-apart job? or is it meant to open like every other one? (Never seen an airbox like this!)

yer mate they get tight some times just gotta yank it, maybe a few taps with a hammer to loosen it.

All good, got the sucker off... obviously hadn't been opened in a long time!
