    Default 253 temp sender

Trying to get the temp gauge working and i read on a random website that the wire used for the temp gauge has a special substance in it for the gauge to work? that makes no sense to me but i thought id ask.

    so is this true?

Nah, the temp gauge sender sends a signal (possilbe resistance cant remember) down a normal wire. The other wire is just an earth. You can short out the sender wire and the gauge should move straigh to hot.
