hello fellas i was thinking of doing some work to my vh nothing extreme just
heads carby extractors dizzy mild cam
just wondering what would be your recommendations
i don't wanna it to drain fuel faster than i can put it in at the moment its like 50kms to $20s which isn't very good would like to try double the k's it's currently got a holly on it not sure which one don't know how you tell and it's reco'd and only has done around 180000ks and doesn't blow smoke or even when it's started no knocks runs sweet can post pics if you want just ask it's a nice mustard yellow (grampa to the max) stock but has a nice stereo sle rims
so yeah would like a bit more bite im thinking of putting it on gas.
If your worried about fuel comsumption sell it.Its a V8 get use to it.I have 3 at the moment.Basically a good tune will help improve your poor fuel economy. Also that holley wont help at all for fuel economy(they aint that good on fuel/but for performance they are good easy carbi's).Get a rebuilt and rotchester on it they are a very good carbi and not too bad for mild engine work.
I would start with a maybe adding electronic ignition, run premium fuel and give the car a good service tune up and compression test. Then once you have done a fuel service on the gnine gearbox and diff/wheel bearings. Then would start by replacing the exhaust with some extractors then a single 2.5 inch exhaust or twin 2 and a 1/4 system.Maybe install 3.55s in the diff help with acceleration.Run some thermo fans.Replace the holley with a rotchester, maybe a dual plane aftermarket intake manifold.See how you go from there and if that aint enough change the cam to something alittle milder. Also if its an auto get a shift kit installed.

definitly get it tuned properly. from what i've heard, the majority of people don't set the holleys up properly. also check your timing
the problem with fuel economy in the 308's is the trans, the majority are either the traumatic or 4 speed manual. you really want a 5spd box with decent overdrive ratio. that way you can run decent diff gears and still get some economy. the VH sle from memory will have 2.6:1 diff gears with the traumatic. great for cruising but crap for stop/start driving

Not much you can do to help the economy on the old V8's. Other than fixing all the bits that make the spark and fire. A good way to go would be to put the EFI onto it. Seen it done a few times but dont know the cost (may be out side the budget).

i will never sell it .YET. yeah its auto with a lsd factory yeah i think ill get the carb looked at i knowa guy that works dreams on them and see what condition it's in then look about getting a 5 speed what do you recommend i hear good things about a supra box get some nice tractors and give every thing a good clean and fix up
Yeah supra 5 speed. As said above go back to the rochester, good carby with great economy. Holleys are a race carby, some people have good results but personelly ive never seen it good on economy. Electonic ignition, and exhaust are all good ideas. Thermos are good but dont move the heat from the engine bay as efficiently, but still gppd for economy.
I disagree that old V8's arnt efficient, if their tuned and setup right they can be just as efficient, just EFI ones are so much easier to get right.
EFI is an option but a whole different ball game.
Holleys are guzzlers anyway, get a stock one as said
We got rep back, yaaay!
hey just wonder what model is the stock
ROCHESTER carby for the vh?

ok next questionwere would be my best price for a reco carb for it and what price would i expect and what what be a good price and all so i wanna get a kit for my master cylinder were would i get that and what would i pay
For the carby i would go HERE They seem to be very cheap but excellent quality and service, ill be buying my carby through them shortly.
For the Master cylinder and good brake specialist should be able to rebuild it or supply a rebuild kit, dont know of costs though.
