You could go the almighty weber, everyone seems to be having excellent results wuth these on 202, and have seen some on 186's. Not sure on the stromberg, you maybe be able to if you can find one that has all the polution gear, or willing to block some pollution gear which would be illegal and make your car unroadworthy.

You need adapters, Redline make them, their about 40 bux.
I'm still researching to do mine, but so far what i know is:
Great for economy specially over the varijet,
Best to rebuild the weber first to (bout 50 bux for rebuild kit)
Use original falcon jets, even though its coming off a 4.1 litre.
You can run either manual or auto choke.
The accelerator cable is the only mucking around. You can either use the ford cable and muck around to make it fit on the holden pedal, or use the holden one and make a custom bracket near the carby to hold the cable.

The weber is off a XE or XF falcon, preferably the XE.
Theirs heaps of info on oldholden.com in the pedia to.

    Cheers Tom

Its doubtful that all the pollution gear is there if you are running a 186. The temp sensor/switch in the head will be missing for a start.

I think he really means a blue 173.

There's nothing wrong with the Varajet Carbs. If you're getting flat spots there may be a problem with the accellerator pump. Rough idling can be caused by a number of other problems not associated with the carburettor, check that all vacuum hoses are in good condition and that all connectors are connected. Check that the PCV valve is not stuck, also check that the choke plates are opening all the way, chokes sticking halfway open is a common problem with the varajets. Changing over to a stomberg carb will require both intake and exhaust manifolds to be changed as well as the engine pipe on the exhaust. Generally not worth the time, effort and cost.
