    Default Good sound, too quiet...

my 253 sounds nice low down, throaty and bumbly but its just very quiet.

ive heard a cheap way to get a lumpyer sound by putting a small hole in the harmonic balancer (rear muffler) to get it to growl.

i have no dough for extractors or full 3'' systems. i just want something so my car has more attitude. oh andi cant drop the cat converter cause mine never came with one

LOL yeah drop the cat, LMAO name and shame please.....

Best povo way to make it louder is take the rear resonators off and run straight through. Shouldn't cost to much, if say remove the resonators yourself, drive up to your local exhaust joint and get them to weld it up, or get them to do the lot. Or find a mate in the know how.

it is illegal but 50% of cars who have a "loud" exhaust have an illegal set up. removing the rear resinator will make it loud but it wont be super loud get pulled over ever 3 seconds with no ear drums etc etc

im real tempted to just put a few holes in the top of the resonator (so all the moisture wont leak through it and rust) just to roughen it up and louden it up while still having the muffler there (so its not so sussed for the Police)

a harmonic balancer is different to a rear muffler
    wiki
"A harmonic balancer (also called crank pulley damper, torsional damper or vibration damper) is a device connected to the crankshaft of an engine to reduce torsional vibration."

a rear muffler is a muffler on the end of your exhuast. they are 2 completely different things

"ive heard a cheap way to get a lumpyer sound by putting a small hole in the harmonic balancer (rear muffler) to get it to growl."

from that statement i gather you called them the same thing

putting a few holes in the harmonic balancer (crankshaft pully) will just throw the engine off balance

oh woops i thought that the balancer was just a fancy name for a rear muffler. well its just a round muffler right before the end of the exhaust, what would a hole in the do?

a hole will make it a bit louder, although u can get this ****ed up air rush noise kinda like a soft fart lol. for under $100 u could have it removed and replaced with a str8 through one

a hole in the rear resinator ( rear muffler) would just increase exhuast noise

its ok man. we all make mistakes lol ( i admit i could have been nicer about it lol)

harmonic balancer = fancy name for crankshaft pully

Straight through (no rear resonator) maybe illegal, BUT both my brothers car's have passed a roadworthy with out them, and even got past a vicroads check after it was defected for other things. The one on the 253 had a balanced twin exhaust and it sounded so bloody nice, but it had a strong motor and nice lumpy cam to back it. Neither are excessivly loud.

dont cheap out on exhaust mods... holes in your rear muffler will just make it sound like a clapped out piece of crap with rusty mufflers. under $400-500 can get you an exhaust from the manifolds back and will give a nice sound

as above, dont just put holes in it as it will sound like its rusted out... ie: crap!

do what most others have said and take the rear resonator off and put a straight bit of pipe in its place. you wont get pinged for no rear resonator as long as the exhaust note doesn't exceed the legal dB limits.
