    Default vk+vp 3.8ltr+turbo=?

gday guys posting this on behalf of my mate he has a vk and just brought a smashed vp 3.8 5 speed, and he wants to turbo it he got a turbo from autobarn its a kkr 380 rated at 380hp, we've seen on ebay the chips u can buy for the forced induction and also the 2 bar map sensors but wat were unsure of is injectors and manifolds

    1) what sorf of injectors dus he need were told standard are only good for 8psi of boost he wants around 11-12osi

    2) can u use the standard exhaust manifold with a j pipe set up or dus he need new custom ones?

    3) will an aftermarket fuel reg be needed if so wat type?

    4) he has a bosch 040 pump will this be good enuf?

    5) how strong are the bottom ends this motor is a recon so pritty fresh

cheers for any advice muchly appreciated

Would be easier and cheaper and more reliable for him to purchase a VL motor.

yea that is a good point but i think its the fact that he already had a motor and just wants to make it work again, why buy another when you have one that has great potentual for cheap? also VP motors were incredibly powerful, more so than the RB30. also not prone to head cracking and has huge tourque.

although the RB30 would be easer to fit.

true ,but he wants to turbo it so it would be alot easier and cheaper to get a RB series motor and performance parts are allot easier to get
but yeah the turbo V6 would be nice though

Not to mention be more reliable (if both motors were turbo) and will respond better to upgrades and the rb30 also has a huge amount of after market performance upgrades readily available. The rb30 was basically designed for turbo and you can have the motor turbo charged using the stock turbo parts from around $500-1000. Or you could turbo the vp motor and spend around 2k on all parts including custom made parts. But its hes choice. If i was him I wouldn't waste my time and money turbo charging a buick v6 when he can use the nissan rb30. Easier cheaper and less hassles.

the RB30 conversion certainly would be easier as it's all off the shelf parts to make it work. there are plenty of turbo'd V6's getting around these days so it's not to dificult to do. custom pipes would be the best option in my opinion. many people are running em with 10-14psi without to many problems. the great thing is that should you blow the engine there are many more cheap ones avail. in the US they are running factory turbo's buick V6 engines making in excess of 1500hp (bloody shame holden never used em in the VN's) one ofthe mods they do in the US is to drill out the oil feed hole to on of the center main bearings because it's smaller then all the rest. i'm not sure however if the buick engines used by holden have this same quirk. the factory turbo engines also have much stronger crank/rods/ pistons combo to handle boost. obviously parts are avail if your after big numbers it's just that you will need to get em from the US

Interesting... I wonder why Holden never used the buick v6 turbo? Holden haven't really had a good 6 cylinder since the VL turbo. Besides the factory super charged 6's what aren't even really known of.

The Buick turbo was finished by the time the new version of the V6 that the VN uses was in production. Also the VN was built for the RB30 everything on the car is setup for the RB even the stock cat back exhaust bolts straight up to the RB30's headers. The V6's Y pipe and everything to do with that motor in the VN was a fudge to make it work
