Question vl rb30 conversion to vk

hey, im only 17 and only new to car modification
im wanting to put a rb30 motor into my vk berlina.

the 202 black motor in it is running ok, but is starting to guzzle some fuel and the piston rings are leaking some oil.(starting to get tyred)
i have sourced a rb30 for $350 with only 120xxxkms on it and i was wondering if there was any major modifications that i would have to make for the new motor.

also, do u thinkm the rb30 would be a better choice over a ecotech for value and power
i am evetually wanting to place turbo running gear on it
current mods on my vk are small but include:
    sports steering wheel
    18" shadow chrome wheels
lowered approx 3" all round on pedders
    sports exhaust with turbo mufler
    small interior touches
any help u guys can give me would be gratly appreciated

if you know what your doing than it shouldnt be too hard...the rb30 is a million times better than any holden v6 when it come to turboing. i too almost decided to put an rb30 into my vh but now im thinking injected 5 litre v8.

Just by a VL, sell the VK and you wont be much out of pocket. Dont molest a beautiful VK with Jap ****, yes i can bag VL's as much as i Like caus im in the VK section now :P
Turbo's are **** in my opinion, and have their place on a diesel engine, but thats my opinion.
But from a money perspective, you would spend more money putting a RB30 into a VK then you would just buying a VL, plus then you can be like yo man i own a fully sick VL with giant stupid looking rims, a holden sticker across the windscreen. Its my poor mans skyline caus it has a nissan engine yo bro. Dont forget a fully sick subwoofer with some neons. Oh **** nearly forgot you MUST purchase a tacho thats bigger then your sick steering wheel.

    Yes i really hate VL's.

yer i used to hate vl's till a mate got a mint one, its just the people that own vl's that are the problem, the car itself is good (not as good as vb-vk tho)

yeh i agree about what you are saying about vl's and vl drivers thats main reason why i bought a vk instead.

i dont want to go and buy a vl for that reason and the fact that my vk project is just begining and i dont want to throw her away yet

would i have to change the trimatic in it also same with the diff??? tailshaft???
anything else major i may have not mentioned i should think about before spending the $$$ on it????

    yep vl ,best commodore ever!!!!!!

but yer mate wouldnt be a overly hard conversion if your a mechanically minded kinda person.the rb30 is such a versitile power plant ,parts are cheap ,there pretty reliable and respond well to mods.

your going to need a bit more then just the engine to carry out the swap tho.you'll allso need front crossmember, engine mounts, wiring harness, ecu, fuel pump/tank.depending what box your going to be using you'll need a tail shaft and gearbox crossmember.a fair bit involved but i think it would be wort it in the end.

was thinkin bout putting a 30 into my vc, but she died before i had the chance. i rekon use the vl dash in your vk..i think they just look a heap better.

any way mate what ever you decide on good luck with it
the germans designed it, the aussies built it, the japs got it moving and the wogs got it dosing...

I'm with Tom_1569 on this one. I can't stand seeing older commodores being basterdized with rb30s. If i had the money lying around I'd buy any older commodores with rb30 conversions I found just so I could convert them back. Just put an ecotec v6 in. Or if you're really keen, put an alloytec in. Theres not many alloytec conversions done, it'd be unique, and you'd have heaps of power straight up.
    I really hate rb30s.

    Hey

did you end up doing the conversion. If you want to do a six conversion then to an ecotec or alloy engine. I was looking at doing an ecotec conversion and am still 100% sure weather to do it or not. For get the 30 and do one of those^^. The ecotec has 150kw (similar to the 308 vk when it was released) and great touque I was able to source a complete wrecked VS for the same price your going to spend on the engine alone.

Trust me. When it comes down to it. If you want a 30 then buy a VL and if you want a HOLDEN 6 go for a ecotec or leave the 202 and build a monster 8. Like I want to save up and build a blown LS3 capable of 900-1100hp
