    Default VC Headlight problem?

    Hey guys

Sister has my old VC now.. and a problem has come up.. the regular headlights dont work.. fuse and globes are good.. highbeams work too.. Dont suppose the indicator stalk could be apart of the problem could it? it is a little loose..

    Cheers

Try replacing the switch, their quite common to brake in early commodores. Also you could put the globes in something else or try different globes. I doubt that it would be in the stalk if its the normal lights not working, but it could be a short somewhere in their as the stalks are common for that to lol.
Really its a process of elimination to you find the right one.
I would start by testing ALL globes, i had one parker out, which was causing me so many head aches, wiht lights on the idicator would come on, then on high beam the indicator would come on really bright with the normal lights aswell, it was bloody madnes trying to work it out, evne though i knew that globe was stuffed i didnt think it would cause all that. Oh also bad earth is another common fault, whilst on the subject of early commodor light faults, dont try and adjust them, the adjusters are probly broken haha.

    G'day Shifty
Its been a while since ive been into the wiring on a VC,but here goes if ya take the covers off around the steering column ya can get at the wires for the combination switch, from memory the feed from the H/L switch is light blue hi beam is green and Low is brown, get yaself a testight and probe the wires if there isnt anything coming out then the switch is RS,Then unplug the switch and jump the blue to green and blue to brown if ya got both beams then ya switch is stuffed, the H/L wires will be large cables, this will confirm your diagnosis,in my opinion the genuine GMH switches are better than the aftermarket ones,i know some will disagree with me on this but ive fitted dozens of them and take it from me its a pain in the crack doing the job twice for the sake of $50.00.
The VC never had relays as standard but it may have had some fitted.
