hey guys
ive got a 1985 VK 308 which is a trimatic 3 speed auto at the moment and was wondering how much things would need to be changed to make it suit a supra 5 speed....like tailshaft length etc? custom bellhousing?
is this a common option for a manual conversion or are there better and stronger gearboxes?
any help would be great....positive and/or negative issues about the conversion
cheers..

Supra box is strong as, good for a hgue amount of HP, cant remember but it was easily 500HP+. Not sure on the tailshaft, think you buy the front half, and use the rear of your existing one. Custom bell housing and adapters. Best to speak to castlemaine rod shop, or dellow automotives, they are the two people that make conversion kits.
I put one in my Vh a few years back. You use a bellhousing, crossmember, yoke and spigot bush from CRS. You use a standard commodore clutch cable, fork and throw out bearing with a toyota driven plate and holden 1 tonner pressure plate. Its a straight bolt up job apart from bending the clutch fork slightly. The trimatic tailshaft is the correct length, you just have to swap the yokes over. From my experience the Supra has a better shift than the T5 and a similar torque capacity. I've never broken one but I don't drive like a F---wit either.
