I have a problem with my vb sl/e dash lights. When i got it it had a blow fuse so replaced that and it blew when i turned the parkers on. so pulled the dash apart went through the wires and couldn't find any burnt or rubbed through or bad connections. Next i took out the gauge cluster and bingo they worked, so then i pulled the cluster apart and found a few burnt tracks.
Next step was a replacement cluster which i fitted today and all was working again.....for a while ( 2 hours i was fiddling and putting the dash back together and it worked fine) then i started the car and put my foot on the door switch for the interior lights and the fuse blew again, grgggrrgrrrrrr.
I chucked in a 25 amp fuse and turned them on again this time it blew the fuse to the light switchreplaced that and it blew the dash lights again
.
So i have replaced the light switch and gauge cluster checked as much of the wiring to the dash/ lights as i could and still have no idea whats causing it.
Anyone got any ideas?

Cheers nut! i didnt think of that ill give it a try.
do you remember where they are? i found 2 next to each other beside the column any more in there i should look for?
There is about 4 in the boot, 2 near each side of the tailights(lift the carpet up), 2 either side of the boot hinge. There is i think another 4 in the dash area. There is one in the engine bay, near the battery, on the rad support frame. Takes a few hours to get clean.

Thanks man i am getting stuck into it today. i already got all the ones in the boot when sorting out the tail lights as you do with the early commo's lol.
All fixed it seems it was the stereo wiring cause as soon as i unplugged it the lights worked without blowing fuses!
Thanks for the help sl/enut i now have all clean earth connections and all my lights are brighter and my fan /ac works better.
Glad to help out a fellow VB SL/E owner!

If ya have solved the problem by unhooking ya stereo then the problem is most likely that the original stereo light feed has been connected to earth at the radio, seen it many times.
