    I'll have a go...

    8 = Holden
    K = Exec
    69 = Sedan
    N = Engine?
    K = 1980 production
    706711 = S/N
    C = VC

    Dont know if it's factory for 2 fillers - But a mate of mine put a second long range tank into a HZ wagon.

    The engine code I'll lookup. Back soon......'click' (door closes)

    The engine option code is L36 for the l/comp 4.2L

    On the body plate the letter following the Body Number is the place it was built
    A = Adeliade
    B = Briz
    M = Melb
    S = Syd
    NZ = NZ

    Theirs another tag telling you the engine trans and diff + paint, model, body number, trim and buld date.

    8 = Holden
    K = Commodore SL
    69 = Sedan (only by 88greenVN) said
    N = Cant find an engine N anywhere
    K = 1980 Model
    SHOULD BE ONE MORE LETTER Followed by 7 for the plant
    06711 = S/N
    C = VC

    Twin fuel fillers has me stumper unless it has either a sub tank or a long rang tank, but still cant see the need for two fillers.

    The K was for the Commodore. The SL was the Berlina of today "L".

    New Zealand

    Other tags will be on the front cowling beside the radiator. Some times a body number can be found under the left headlight.

    Ummm *bites tongue and thinks* this may be different for the VC's but a VK SL is the base model and K stood for it, must of been a change somewhere along the lines. Did VC's also not have the plant in the plate?

    I'm not arguing here, but what makes you think the left hand filler is factory? It may have the factory filler door, on the left hand side.

    Also, K is the base model, since this is a VC, its the L base model. If it had 8L69, SL spec.

    Hmmm, i'm really thinking that, perhaps the rear quarter has been replaced, with an imported panel, say from Opel.

    And the VH and VKs too.

    K denotes base model, VB, VC's L, VH's SL, VK's Exec and SL
    L denotes SL in VB-VC's, VH's SL/X and VK Berlina's
    X denotes VB-VH SL/E, Calais in the Vks
