Smile VK Royal 2ltr 4 cyl

Hi guys, not sure if you have the 4 cyl VK in Ausy but will ask any way. I want to put the VK V8 disk set up on in the front and a VK Disk Rear in. Is the stubs on the front the same size or should I just replace the whole strut and also are the rear yokes all the same on the VB to VN solid rears ? I am going to put in a 308 but want to get the running gear sorted first with the 2 ltr. It is currently 5 / 100 stud pattern of all things ! Any help would be great.
Cheers

hey mate..by the time the vk hit the scene i think holden had relized the starfire was a dud and started selling them as boat anchors...a 4cyl vk was never relased in australia from my knowledge but they were exported o/s.

with regards to ur question..for front brakes dont worry bout changing the entire strut assembly..larger rotors and calipers will bolt straight on to ur existing struts. a complete v8 diff will allso bolt straight in..as for the diff yokes..vb to vk had the u bolt type ..vl forward had flange type..it is possible to seperate tail shafts and mix and match parts to suit wat ur goin to run..

if ur goin to put a v8 in,the front k fram will allso need changing as there diffrnt however a v8 one will bolt straight up.hope tht helps

you will want too put some new shock inserts in the front struts the 4cylinder shocks have such a small diameter rod coming out of the shock its not funny .repco sell new disks for about $80 bucks each for the front .and to fit the v8 you need to weld on some engine mounting points further foward than the original mounts the last one I did i used 2 lengths of box section the right size to fit the engine mounts over with a hole bored through for the mount bolts welded to the original K-frame engineer certified it no problems but if you can get a v8 k-frame and struts it will be much simpler

damn a 4cyl VK royale. haven't seen one of those in years. yep, a complete swap of the running gear would be easiest. ditch the rear diff as it's weak. try to get a borgwarner diff for it there are more parts avalaible for it and more ratio's to choose from. any 6 cyl subframe will do as it's the same as the V8 models. your easiest bet would be to get the entire K frame/struts etc from a 6 cyl model as these have the larger stud pattern your after. the borg warner diff uses a flange arrangement with the driveshaft but as mentioned above, you can mix and match front and rear halves to suit your setup.

where abouts in auckland are you, if your on the south side try sayers auto spares, they specialise in early model commodores or just watch the T&E and trademe for the parts you require
