hj 202 red motor into vb

will a hj 202 red motor fit into a 79 vb commodore in place of blue 3.3 litre?

Yes it will. You need to change the exhaust manifold though as it is different. And the VB never came with a blue motor so someone must have changed it.

IIRC, they didn't start using the blue until the VC or VH, right? (yeah, I know the VK had a black one, and was the only car to do so)

Correct ^, vb was red motor, vc vh blue. Of course the conversion to an earlier motor will be illegal because the Hj motor did not comply with adr27A(emissions regs), unless you of course change over all the adr27A stuff as well, the cylinder head is different incorporating a temp switch for ignition advance.

Possibly the authorities dont care too much about it atm, but a stringent rwc tester would fail it and it could be eligible for a big fine!

thanks for that.. the hj 202 wont b going in til after the vb is on the road n registered. just wantd to kno if it would fit so i would still hav a car while i was doing up the motor out of the vb

You might have to change the sump
