hey fellas, how are the kids?
Nevermind, any way ive gotten a hold of a set of stock 308 exhaust manifolds from a commodore for free of a mate of mine and i want to change them over (since the ones on my car are well... cracked.). He had already taken them off and had them lying around for a while before i got there so i dont know how much these have been used.
Now how do i go about this? Also i have put a ruler on the new manifolds and its barely out one millimeter at the most. Are these ok to put on or do they need to be machined? Also they dont look too old (ie not a strange colour from being heated up and cooled over and over). Is there a gasket where it connects to the actual exhaust pipe?
thanks guys
yeah you can get gaskets for them. try supercheap or repco or something. should cost about $15 for a set

As Stocky set, Gaskets can be had fro most places, try and use the metal ones if you can, these are suppose to be better and more tolerable to not perfect faces.
Have a look at your current headers, are they bolted to the motor and bolted directly under the header, or does the header have the exhaust coming down and joining further down, if so where and how is it join. I know some older headers had the exhaust going down to the Y-pice, which could mean cutting and welding, but some can be unbolted directly under the header.
If its the easier type, then its pretty simple, remove old header, clean up the surfaces lightly with some 600 wet n dry, clean the threads etc to get a good clean fit. Whack the new one on with a new gasket, line up, torque it up. You can also use a gasket sealer aswell if you want, but I wouldnt worry if using the metal gasket.
yea it just connects to the pipe via some bolts so no cutting needed. Well thats good on my behalf! Dont have to pay someone to do it now. I know that gaskets are needed to connect the manifold to the engine head (ive done it a few times now, i hate it lol) but rather how its connected to the pipe itself?
