    Default Road Worthy

    Hello all,

I would like to know if you need to have the fan that blows air onto the windscreen working to pass road worthy? If so how do i get it out because mine isn't working, i'm talking about the fan that sits next to the wiper assembly.

    Cheers

    i think you do
and i think the blower is connected to the heater core box with clips and to get to them you have to take the lower dash and radio out.

that box has the heater core in it and there is to hoses going to the heater core from the tromsat housing you have to take them off. not sure if you have to drop coolant but most likely you do.

Yeah i was just out at the car and i saw those two hoses going in. They seem to be stuck on very tight so it should be fun trying to get them off. I hope its just them, then it comes out or else im not sure what to do.

Dude, if its not blowing air, it will be the fan itself, or the heater switch unit, they are both common faults.
The heater fan is **** easy to replace, just under the glove box remove that panel and then theirs a black cover over it. Its a 5 minute job, no need to remove the heat core and **** like that, or the stereo.

I got that fan going mate, i mean the one that blows on the windscreen which is near the wiper assembly, the top of it sticks out there. I just want to know how to replace that one.

Yeah, Nah I knew that, Just assumed the VK had the same dash. The VK might have a seperate demister fan Im not sure, but I know when the heater fan brakes I have no demister, but could just be the way they are wired.

Yeah both fans are wired up together. I took the two wires that go to the demister fan which were im guessing the positive and negative and hooked them up to a 12v power supply and still didnt work.

Ok i have tried everything i can to get to the demister fan and i just can't do it without cutting and smashing things lol. I had an idea, what if i made it so the air that blows on the windscreen comes from the air con fan instead of the demister fan? I dont see why it wouldn't be road worthy. If i need to de-fog the windscreen i can just turn the air con on and there you go. Any ideas before i continue with this?

    Cheers

You need the fan to circulate air onto the windscreen if/when the vehicle is stationary. For example, if you returned to your vehicle after it had been parked for a while, it was freezing cold outside, by the time you get in and put your seatbelt on the inside of the screens becomes foggy. You can't safely drive off with them in that condition hence the need for fan assistance.

Yeah mate i understand that, i can turn on the air-con fan even when the car is stationary. So i am able to do what your saying.

What i'm want to do is by-pass one of the hoses that comes from the air-con fan and connect it up to blow on the windscreen.
