HI I am a newbie to this so please bare with my lack of knowledge. We have a vk with a black 202 motor, it will not start. I had run it out of petrol but when i refilled it it wouldnt fire up. It turns over and petrol is getting through, the coil is getting power I have changed the plugs and the leads but still not starting, can anyone give me any ideas what to try next?
cheers
Is it Carby or EFI? The VK's i think run a Elec fuel pump. Have you checked to make sure that fuel is coming out of the pump?
its carby and yes there is petrol coming through, this is why i am miffed , any other thoughts??
Put an old Spark Plug on the end of one of the spark plug leads and earth the bottom of the plug on the block, crank the motor, if there's no spark at the plug gap it maybe the infamous EST unit or crank angle sensor that's crapped out?
If it is, reset the unit with a 10lb sledge hammer.
EST Bypass or test?

Thats the only way
If its getting fuel, then its most likely spark. If you have any spark issue, replace the EST..... Its not worth ****ing around with, its costly, frustrating, to try and fix and at the end of the day you still have an unreliable piece of **** ignition system. Oh better fuel economy economy with an electronic dissy to. I went from 32.36L/100k's to 13.16/100k.s
Dont actually think it was so bad. Its just the fact that its old and very unreliable, things were breaking on it left right and centre, and im guessing half the sensors were stuffed, causing it run completly **** house, not to mention all the unplanned stops along the way. To the point a normal 1 hour drive, I was packing lunch and making a day of it lol.
Huge difference at the pump, I did replace with second hand EFI dissy, that I replace the cap and rotor button on and put a new set of plugs in. Still using same coil and leads. So not sure how much the new plugs made a difference, but its all made a MASSIVE difference. Grr I spent hundreds in parts alone trying to make the EST reliable, not to mention tow's home (free but not a way to make my mate happy after 12 hour working days), countless hours diagnosing and fixing problems. It took less then an hour to fix the EFI dissy and get it timed up properly and havent had a problem since.
cheers thanks for your feedback will get on to it and see what happens... could handle a decrease in petrol usage...couldnt we all...
