I have this problem with my vh where ill start it first thing no worries drive it around for a while park, go back 30 mins later and i turn the key and there is nothing, all the dash lights will come up but nothing happens when i turn the key.
If i fidle around with the gearbox lever go threw p,r,n,d then back up it will start no worries but not everytime. Sometimes ill just turn the key 5 -10 times and it will start.
Ive had a bit of a look at the gearbox wiring thinking it might be the neutral switch not allowing it to start and it all seems to be good, could it be anything else like the starter motor? and what exactly should i be looking for wiring wise?
Check all the contacts and terminals from the battery to the starter motor.
Its possible that its not completly slipping into park when you do stop it.
Also have your ignition looked at, Might be a faulty barrel
well hopfully picking up a new starter motor this week so hopfully that fixes the problem
Most likely not the starter. I had this problem with the VH I had. It turned out to be the ignition barrel. But it could also be a dickie ignition lick out switch on the tranny.
ok well had a bit of a play around today found out when it doesnt want to do anything i can chuck it in neutural and it will start so far its started in neutral everytime. Is there a switch or wiring that could be playing up?
Sounds like the neutral start switch. The thing that stops the car starting in gear.
how do i fix that?
Put a new one in. Take the console off and you will see it on top of the bracket. One screw I think is all that holds it on. Or it could be two.
ok i took a picture cause im not to sure what im looking for
is it the green thing?

Yep, thats the one. It operates on the pin that runs up through the stick. That one is just clipped on.
