hey, im in the process of rebuilding my diff for my vh sle commo, its a 3.08 ratio lsd, and when stripping it i noticed that the axle bearing cones in the housing were loose, the could spin and be removed by hand. is this normal o should i either glue the new cones in or replace the housing..... i need the diff finished so any help is greatly appreciated.
regards, mark
The cones should not spin in the housing. You could try locktite to hold the cones in or stake the housing to tighten it up. By staking i mean use a centre punch and hammer to put a series of dents spaced evenly into the housing where the cone sits. The metal at the edge of the centre punch hole will be slightly raised so the cone should be a tighter fit. The holes will give the locktite something to grip on too.
