vh problem...

vh sl/e with black 308.....after a 6 hour drive battery light came on...volts are fine still sits around 12...starts fine...under acceleration light dims to pretty much off so seems alternator is charging... someone enlighten me please

Alternator should be charging about 13.8V, 12V means under charging.

Could be:

1) Loose fan belt
2) Bad Wiring from Alternator
2) Shagged Regulator in Alternator
3) Shagged Alternator
4) Suspect Battery

battery water was low toped it up n was all good light went away..drove 30 mins. volt meter startd dropping to 8 volts so guess alt has **** itself ....price and where can i get 1....oh yeah i'll need one 4 a black 308 is therea dfference between black blue and red....

pull the alternator out and check the brishes and diode pack befor replacing the whole lot, they are heaps cheaper than a new unit.

Ingrams stock most of the parts required to rebuild them.
