if a can battery is dies while car is running, does that mean alts not working....because couldnt alt keep a battery charged till it stops running then start to flatten

no, you don't need a new battery...you need your alternator replaced or repaired. Your alternator is not charging the battery forcing the car to run purely off of the battery. You may just need to replace the brushes or even the regulator...Might even be simplr to just replace the whole alternator and start afresh?

But your battery is definetly fine...for the time being, continuing to charge the battery and then run the car with it will eventually cause issues.

first off, check the condition of the charge cable from the alternator to the battery.
