I dont know why, but there is something about these older models i really love. My very first car was a 1979 VB/SLE with the red 253. I loved that car so much but my mum hated it to death because it kept breaking down on us

The gearbox blew so i got a reconditioned turbo 350 for it and installed a quadrajet carby on it.

I really loved the note on that thing it was so nice.

I have one, its a VH SLE s2 308, indigo blue with matching interior, this car was my pride and joy, I drove it like it was a Rolls Royse. Well, I got so passionate about my car, I was affraid to drive it anywhere, so I put it in storage for six years. Twelve month ago I couldn't take it anymore, so I pulled it out of storage, had everything fixed that it needed from front to back, got it registered, WOW , I was in my glee.

6 month ago I had my car parked out the front of my house, I heard a load rev and a quick take off. No way........it couldn't be........SHIT my car, WTF it was gone, I just lost it, I was all confused, I rang the cops, biggest mistake I ever made in my life, this took about 15min, I shouldv'e jumped in my other car and chased them, because if I had of cought them......well......maybe better I did ring the cops.

Anyway, a week of calling all my mates to see if they have seen it, and driving around every night, I get a phone call at midnight from the cops,
"we have found your car"
YES!, "how is it",
"well, the tyre is flat and it's missing a rear bumber bar"
"where is it"
"just of the main street"
"be there in a tick"
so I grabed the spare from the statesman and went straight out. There it was all in tacked, not a dent, some scratches around the boot lock, one flat tyre, spare SLE rim missing, they also took the rear bar, tail light extensions, grille and the centre cover of the steering wheel.

I changed the flat, went over the entire car, started it up, everything sounded fine so I drove it home, and now it's back in storage.

I am going to sell it though, but only to somebody who I know is going to appreciate it and look after it as I did, thats why I joined 'just commodores' because I know I should be able to find the right person here.

If you know of anyone, please let me know. I'm going to ask about $5000.00 the rego is due so it will have 12 month reg.

I have a sequence of pictures of an early Commodore doing a 7000 rpm + burnout, was the highest reving engine of the day at the local drags about 10 years ago, also went home on the trailer in non working order before the meet was over but it sounded excellent in the mean time , I'll try to remember to scan some pictures and put them here

I love the VB, getting that interior to fit would have been a nightmare. In fact any car with a later model interior has my appreciation. Slightly off-topic but I do have an old mag at home with a feature story on a 48-215 Holden that had been retrofitted with an EFI 5.0 and fully fitted out with a VS Statesman interior including climate control!

As for pics, can I supply one of my beaten-up paint-faded rust-infested VC as a reference for how they shouldn't look?

i bought a vh sle about 4 months ago for my first car,
it came with a bit of a faded roof and minor scratches, also a worked 5.0 vk brocky motor with a shift kitted trimatic. electric mirrors the complete sle electrics, but trip comp is ****ed, and cruize is a bit gay in operation.
at the moment i dropped in a fluffy 253 with a cam. (i feel like calling the guy i bought the engine off and thank him for selling it to me with an after market cam. yes seeing its stock! bloody idiot). but yer now i just gotta put some new carpet in her cause the sides a freyed. but very nice car. u will see it on the mornington penisula area within 3 months for some cruizing.

usually red pinstripe denotes it has red interior. Yeah mine gives me goose bumps too, i will never ever sell it either

Heres my vh sle 5L auto it has the dark blue velour interior and is soon to be reprayed. Still throwing ideas for colour in the air, but i think ill stay reasonably close to wat it is now.
