    Default VK G70 Axle

    Hey guys,

My VK has a G70 diff, (2.60:1). It's not a ratio i've come across before and i'm wondering if there's a reason behind this or am I just ignorant?

yeh thats a good question cause its kinda at the deep end really - i thought 2.78 was far enough that way.. ive seen it twice before a VK Calais with the digital dash etc and one under the ass of a VB SLE harshly dumped in a wrecking yard.. i think the guts is offset the same as the 2.78 for the large pinion but wont suit 3.08 gears so i guess thats kinda a hassle if you'd like to change from 2.60?

2.60:1 ratio is usually the ratio for the V8 Vks with auto. Its to do with fuel economy

Yeh, the car was originally a V8 auto funnily enough, has a 5-speed thrown in it now. I've only driven it once, without speedo or tacho so I can't comment on highway revs, certainly better than my old M21 though. Thanks for the insight.....

What type of 5speed did you use? it does appear that 2.60 was the VK 5litre choice back in its day usually LSD as well? i know the VK cop cars got 3.08 LSD's

I didn't build it, and the guy who I bought it off said it's a Tremec T5, which doesn't make much sense. Any way of telling?

i dunno dude but it sure sounds alright to me umm i would climb underneath and have a look at its size and shape maybe take a pic of it as best as ya can and post the pic on here someone will know.. i had a workmate who i thought had an everyday 6 cylinder VK until he told me the speedo was in MPH - i thought yeh right but it really was a VK dash in MPH!! so i took a pic of it and put on old holden forum and that had people stumped only thing was maybe it was an export model?

Hmm, to me that pic looks more like a standard T5 5 speed box.

i had a 2.62:1 or 2.72:1 in my vk 308 with toyota 5speed loved it car would go so fast it was scary used to try and fly way before top speed was reached great ratio for toyota box.
