Rebuilding aussie 4spd

Anyone bought one of these rebuild kits off ebay before?
Holden Monaro XU1 Aussie 4sp gearbox rebuild kit - eBay, Other Car Parts, Accessories, Car Parts, Accessories, Cars, Bikes, Boats. (end time 30-Jan-09 14:12:10 AEDST)

Thinkin bout getting one so I can rebuild my 4spd. If anyone has used them, are they half decent? Any problems? Repco have a kit for $270, and this is pretty much 1/3 the price. The guys selling them rekon they use them a lot and are great.

Also, how do ya know when ya syncro rings need replacing? Is it when teeth are chipped or missing? I got a spare box and the syncro rings seem perfect....but I don't know wat to look for in a bad set.

..only ones I use to rebuild Aussie boxes (I don't use the cheaper on on eBay..bearings are crap) and I have had no problems with these


synchro ring wear?
teeth on gears have nothing to do with this

you need to be able to read the parting surfaces on the brass rings
and their matching hubs and see if there is wear or....
the box crashes when you change gear (AFTER ensuring the clutch is ok)

Mate them syncro's look really good .

As for the bearings on ebay . Ask what brand they are .

What my mate does (whos a mechanic btw) is instead of buying rebuild kits, takes in the old bearings to the local bearing shop, and gets them to match them with quality ones, he recons it works out heaps cheaper and you know exactly what your putting in.
