I bought a 3.08 vp lsd diff the other day. Somehow i let the guy convince me that it would fit in my vk. When i got it home though i was quite peeved when I realized it would be to wide. I wanted it of course because not only is it lsd but disc brakes as well.
So, the question is, what are my options now? I don't think my vk has the borg warner diff, but if it did, would it be possible to swap the lsd center and discs across to it?
Or, does anyone have any idea how much it would cost to have the vp diff shortened to fit the vk? Or is even worth considering.
Or i guess i can sell the diff and try get my money back on it.
Cheers
Yes later VK's came out with a borgy diff.
People do use VN diffs, but you have to have the right off-set on your rims, and possible roll your gaurds, not sure how they run the handbrake, or if the orginial will work.
Also if going from Drum brakes to disc, you will need the corect master setup. as Disc/Drum is different appossed to Disc/Disc
So you think it is possible to squeeze the vp diff under the vk assuming i use wheels with a different offset and somehow change the guards? I know the pursuit wheels off utes have a different off set, would they work? And i was thinking i would go to a vt master cylinder and front discs.
The VP diff will fit. If it's standard height with stock 14" or 15" rims it shouldn't scrub. Yeah the later VK's had a borgy diff, but the only thing u gotta change if u DON'T have a borgy already is the rear section of the tailshaft.
The LSD in the VP will fit into the VK borg warner diff housing, but the VK's had a 25 spline center, and from VN onwards they had 28 spline....so that will be a problem.
Going from drum to disc u gotta change the hand brake cable over, and yeah for it to be efficient ya gotta change the brake booster. They'll still work with the stock booster, but prolly won't be as good.
I got hold of a borgy diff out of a VK which had discs and 3.23 gears. I thought maybe I got lucky and it was originally a VK diff coz of the 3.23 gears (which the borgy's under the VK's had), and I put it under my VB......but....it's scrubbing bad. VL diffs are wider then VK diffs, but this diff seems to scrub worse then my old VL diff did. Even this time I got an adjustable pan hard rod, but that's useless coz it scrubs on both sides. My 17's wouldn't fit under so got some stockies on there.....but it's pretty dumped so I rekon if I lift it up a fraction I should get away with the 17's, possibly even the 18's (the pic in my avatar and sig is the 18's, but with the old diff, and b4 I dropped it a little more).
But yeah, chuck the VP diff under and see how it goes. With stock suspension and wheels it should be ok....there's prolly even a bit of room for lowered suspension or bigger wheels, not sure. Trial and error I guess.
Oh yeah and as mentioned above, u could roll the gaurds.....that should help out ALOT if she's scrubbin.

As these 2 guys said, its doable. I know a guy who did it in his VK, and it was slammed on 15s and didn't scrub. But anything bigger and you'll have problems without a different offset.
