okays, im 16, currently got a vn calais, however its rusted under the windscreen so im gonna sell it soon as its roadworthy. my question is, what kinda car should i get? im definitly getting a holden, and chances are it'll be older, i was thinking a vh, and i have to have a 6 because i needa drive whatever car i have on my p's, so im thinking should i get a lh, lx, or uc torana with the 202? or go with a vh or vk or something with a 202? (which is lightest??) and then what could i do to the engine to make it go hard? i cant have turbo, superchargers or no shit like that, im only alowed basic mods (apparently p platers round here are only alowed exhaust system, and extractors and different air intake shit) but im thinking i could like.. get it cammed, and apprently putting 186 head onto a 202 makes it go harder? i cant confirm this but its what i've heard, so any1 got suggestions on how to get best power out of a 202 without supercharger/turbo and still legal lol. i'll have a flow of money coming in every 3 months ranging from $2000-$6000 so im pretty good for cash.
VP v6. Cheap as chips, reliable and do go quite well for what they are. Anything earlier is just too expensive to keep on the road.
Reaper
Yeah VP V6 or EL/EF Falcon
silly silly, lol if i wanted a 3.8 i'd rip the one outta my vn, but i've been told im not allowed a conversion when im on my p plates. so im stuck with what the car has. i dont care how much it costs to get runnin good, i should be gettin minimum 3k for my vn then with my minimum 2k every 3 months i should be fine for cash.. and im sure i can pick up a vh for well less then what i sell my vn for lol. dont think of price as a problem. i got all the cash i need, and i dont care how many months it takes to get all the money to get the car runnin good![]()
What stare are you in? As far as Im aware the states that have stirct P-plate laws also have NO MODIFICATIONS law, definitly the case with Vic and NSW.
If your getting that much money coming in, then look at a VY SV6 or something similar. Something newer, reliable, cheaper to run and more comfortable. If your set on an older car then look at a project car to do up whilst on your P's but look for a reliable daily.
im in vic, and yeah as i said far as i know only allowed extractors and exhaust system lol. but idc i cant imagine cops pullin my engine apart to see whats inside it so long as nothing major is visible just by looking into my engine bay. also being a teenager i'll be having subs and shit, and an old mate of mine had subs in his vr, which would drain the power from rest of his car when they were turned up, his headlights/dash lights would start to fade in and out, and i dont want that.. so would it be possible to add a second battery to my car? (and i'd like to relocate the original to the boot) and i've also heard that by the time i hit my p's we wont be allowed 3.8's? i cant be posotive i heard it from a friend of a friend.
they would be my choice (well id get a vn but you know....) just get a stocko vn-vp/ef-el and get some diff gears for itit will be more then enough....
Wouldnt bother with anything newer then a vt because insurance is a killer, even though you said your not short on money but why pay more then you have to?
and i wouldnt get anything older then a vl..... something with EFI(i think vk's had efi but meh)
actually, my friend is a female, and her friend was her boyfriend. so yerh![]()
okay then, what about torana's? i dont half mind the lh's. or should i just go for a vs or something cause of the fact its got bigger engine? or shall i go to vicroads, and ask if it will be legal to have a 3.8 in 2 years, and if it'll be legal to have a 3.8 in something older? cause i'd ****in loooooveee to have a torana.
oki. well i'll probably just sell my car. wait 4 months, and buy a vs and **** with that. anybody know what i can do to a vs engine?![]()
Ok, your friends of friends are very wrong. In Vic you are NOT allowed ANY modifications, that includes a CAI an Exhaust, anything that is a modification. Im actually sick of repeating this, so do a search to find more info on it. But basically you are not allowed ANY modifications, correct my plod on the street might no notice internal mods, like a mild cam or flat top pistons and some wild machining, so technically you MAY get away with this from by the police, but remember all the interal mods you want wont mean shit when you cant get the air/fuel in and out sufficiently anyway. Also insurance, any insurance claim will be void, even if your not at fault because your driving a car your not licenced to drive, and trust me insurance companies are good at finding anything to get out of coughing up the money, so dont give them something.
On your other question, no a LH with a V6 wont be p-plate legal either, but do make a good weapon, so maybe a project whilst you drive your stock car around with some subs and what ever else to keep you entertained.
personally id go with the vn vp or vr, those buick engines keep going n going n going...and go hard! once you hit ecottec, you dont have that as jumpy off the line gutsy car, has kinda like a silent second then revs, less wilder u cud say. If you want something clean and fairly reliable, they are the better cheap / old models i recon. and ALOT of people know mods on them so you can obviously get parts and knowledge from around easier.
OH AND BTW! If you want that extra performance edge. a MANUAL car always goes harder than a auto.
get a manual vl .. but i am kinda one sided..
torana on your budget probably wouldnt be advisable ..
also vp vr would be another choice for a stocker as parts are everywhere and cheap

Alternatively, move to Qld. While the p plate laws here are still complete and utter bulls**t, according to qld transport website, you can have any modifications that don't require a mod plate, like a non standard motor or a turbo.
uhm hey tom_1569 thats funny cause my friend of a friend said that i wouldnt be allowed any mods when im 18, but uhm, if thats the case you arent even allowed an exhaust system, why the hell is there a minimum of 50 p platers goin round my town with different exhausts?

ohhh okay, well what bout that night when 3 of my mates got pulled up, and only streeta got a canary because he didnt have an exhaust period?? hanky and gee have exhaust systems, extractors, chrome air intake pipes and k&h filters.. oh and missin got pulled up and he has an exhaust system, and neons, and 2 12 inch subs, and a diff sterio system, all cops said was "turn your music down" how does this all work out if i cant have a single performance mod..
maybe they have better things to do than inspect every part of a v6 car with shiny parts on it. if they can be bothered, theyll check how many mufflers you have, your cat, noise levels, and then give you a defect. also, insurance companies are definately going to check that stuff out if you crash into something. what do stereos have to do with this anyway?

err, if you read right up the top im currently making my vn roadworthy to sell and buy a new car lol..
youre missing the point. any p plater that has mods that theyre not allowd might get overlooked by some cops, but if they crash into something they will have no insurance if the insurance company gets someone to inspect their car

lol, are you for ****ing real? Your friend of a friend can go jam his opinion caus its far from fact. No point using mates nick-names we will never recognise them by them, full name and addresss is more appropriate (read im taking the piss of us not knowing your mates).
There the words I like to here Stocky
Nah seriously Im glad you have banged your head against the wall trying to explain it tonight, its getting old, might be time to start "the official P-plater thread" or some shit so we can just link it.
