Hey guys,
Ive just got my VH returned to me (my bro in law wants my gemini as his first car instead).
Its a 4sp manual with 202 and only larger exhaust and extractors fitted. What I am wanting to do is put a 308 into it and use it as my test and tune car down at the drags. I have a statesman as the 'family' car and an EH as my cruiser you see.
While I understand that the swap is reletivley straightforward, I have had trouble finding figures for what the standard box and diff can handle.
Firstly, will the standard gear be up to handling a stock 304/308 carby down the strip, and at what output would I have to think about upgrading them?
Also, what price can I expect to pay to have the block cleaned up, rebored?
Thanks in advance for any insight you can give.
IUt really should be a engine gearbox & diff swap, the 6cyl VH & 84 VK run a salisbury 25 spline diff the axels are pretty week I used to twist the splines off them with a hot 202.
I would look at running a VL LDS diff from a v8 (3.08) or turbo (3.45)
If your serious about trags I would look at an auto box if you get a blue/black block you can easily get newer model autos that will bolt up and probably be adapted better for drags over the trimatic and be stronger.
I have never had a block just bored & cleaned so i cant say on pricing. where abouts are you located someone might be able to recommend a machine shop.
cheers
scott
