Hi Guys , I don't know alot about cams as such (brand names ) . Is a no name cam just as good as a popular brand ? Or you get what you pay for sort of thing ? I was looking at getting a crow cam for my black 308 motor i am currently building to fit in my VB . Any advice would be awesome . Thanks![]()
the cam is the last thing to look at as...
you need to match your intake (manifold carb) exhaust etc
with rest of your engine setup (standard or highly modded)
with your use of the engine (daily driver or strip use)
a cam that makes power from 3000-6500
is not much use on the street with a std slushbox and high ratio diff
(good with a 3.55 rear and a 4 speed though)
Smitty...with the VE SSv SII Sportswagon, VK race car and...Kwaka ZX12R
Thanks Mate . I was looking at a cam like 1500prm to 3800 . It is really only going to be a cruise machine . It has standard valves and standard size pistons and i'll be running with the quadrajet carby .
You also need to factor in what size wheels, diff ratio & gearbox
So you can work out drivability on the street whilst still getting performance.
It took me about 3 hours work the last time I picked out a cam number crunching in a spreadsheet, I got it sort of wrong its a great cam for performance the car goes well but a pig of a thing to drive around town. On a trip its pretty good just gearing is wrong for around town in half way between gears alot. With a tune i hope to regain some drivability but the car wasnt really intended for around town.
Crow offer some great advise on cams and have a number of pre ground designs.
cheers
scott
