centre bearing rubber probably gone.
Hello all, I've got a strange problem, my gf's VC commodore has a strange knocking noise coming from under the car.
I've checked to see if theres any movement on the tail shaft and theres none, i've replaced all the rubber mounts for the exhaust. Yet the knocking happens only when there's more then 1 person in the car (more then the driver etc) I know the noise is coming from the tail shaft somewhere, but i can't pin point it.
Any ideas?
Cheers.

A lucky owner of 2 SL/E Commodores, a rare VB SL/E and a 2 tone VC SL/E. Just need a VH SL/E and have the set!
is the car lowered? i.e. is the diff hitting the panhard rod when there is an extra persons weight in the car?
i would be checking your floor pan with a person in the passenger seat, and a person rocking the car.
the reason i say this is cos' when the panhard hits, it sounds like the tailshaft.
my 2 cents anyhoo
Most probably the exhaust hitting the panhard rod. When there is weight in the car, the body comes down and the exhaust moves down with it. There isn't a lot of clearance above the panhard rod, so I reckon the exhaust is hitting it.
We had the same issue with the vp, exhaust was knocking against something as it wasnt secured properly. Old parts had disintergrated
yerr i got a knocking noise from uder my vh too. dus it only happen wen u take off cuz if so its probably the centermount on ya tailshaft. thats wat mine iss.
Sorry for the late reply, just incase anyone else gets this problem.
It ended up being the internals of the diff itself. I replaced them and all is good.

ouch.
good thing you nipped that one in the butt. nothin worse than the clung clung clung noise of a shattered diff.
especially when you are 100kms from home.
