Hi there, a few months ago I brought an unfinnished project, A 6cyl vk GTS thats had a 308 dropped into it, Ive come to realise shes a bit of a ruggard conversion job, but Ive been happily plucking away at it getting it road worthy and up to scratch, but the Im having real trouble finding out the running temperature of the motor as prevous owner said he didnt trust the factory guages, so its got a capillary type guage fitted, he warned me that it gets hot and he had taken out the thermostat, on the open road it sits around 85c but climbs up to 90c in town and will continue to climb to the 100c mark.
can any one tell me exactly where it should run? and how to keep it to that level?
It already had a new water pump, ive fitted an ellectric fan on front of the radiator and given it a flush.
any help would be greatly apreciated, cheers
Never heard of a VK GTS???? Post pics please. Anyhoo - 90 - 91 deg c is the optimum water temp for max power. I don't know how good or bad your thermo fan is but the aim should be to turn on at 92 and off at 89. I have heard that EF Falcon ones fit nicely in those but talk to the VL Turbo boys to confirm that one.

nz get everything vn 4cyl vk gts we want a vk gts to lol
any old style setup commodore with a v8 in it will get hot sitting still even for small amounts of time, my old vk 308 would go off the chart sitting in maccas, the only way i found to fix it is to run twin thermos
thanks for your input guys, unfortunately
a gts vk isnt as good as you'd expect, mine was just a 6cyl two toned commodore with different interior (a bit like a brocky)
