Replace Driver side Mirror? How would I do this?

Long story short my ve sedan got side swiped and lost its RH Mirror, I have a new one with me now but need to know the correct way to take off the old housing and attach the new one

assuming take trim off inside and unscrew from the inside

I have a sportwagon so not sure if it's the same but basically where the mirror is in terms of location on the door there should be a black plastic (thats what is is on mine) I take my door trim off because I stabbed the **** out of one of them by slipping because of those stupid clips they use but yeah there should be a plastic bit and behind that you can see where all the wires go into the mirror I think I saw some screws in there connecting the mirror the the door, don't hold me on this because I have never personally done it but I thought I'd share what I know.
