Thanks bigboss helps alot..so do I ask Holden for a hsv wheel backing kit or a kit for the omega? Sorry for the dumb questions haha I just need to know that's allthanks man
Haha no probs mate i had the same questions about 6 months ago :-) what i did was just talked to a holden dealership and told them i needed the stuff to fit a caprice wheal, no mention of my omega :-) Oh and it is not really a "kit" per se the backing is one single plastic mould and the spokes and media controls are sold separately.

Hi There, have been reading blogs for hours and getting more certain, then less certain...
I have bought an HSV wheel with spokes to replace my one piece moulded vinyl plastic Omega wheel.
I know i need new media buttons (hoping i can green illumination??), but do i need any other parts?
Have read various versions saying airbags and covers etc don;t fit. Don't want to worry if it;s going to cost the earth.
Would appreciate your advice because you look like the most recent blogger to have tried and succeeded!
Regards,
Yes it will work, you may also need a new backing plate, and your airbag should fit they are all the same, so yes go for it![]()

Cheers and thanks for such a quick reply - and the encouragement.
What about the green illumination? Holden guy tells me media buttons are only available in red, but wondering if units aren't sealed (?) can i pull bulbs out of old and put into new do you reckon?
I would say it would be hard to change but not impossible, i think they would be tiny LED's on the boards, so unless you are handy with a soldering iron then probably not mate.

Assuming the boards are the same shape you could swap them over...

Thanks for the tip. Yes - they are the same shape. It took some careful dis-assembly and reassembly but it wasn't actually all that hard. It's one of those jobs you just have to poke along slowly and don't break things!
Since the lights are soldered onto the board exactly as you suggested, i just carefully removed the old loom and disassembled them and put the nice new button (and Volume wheel etc) covers from the new HSV media button set ($77 Holden) onto the old Omega boards and clipped them back together. Then i just inserted the HSV media button fascia's into the spokes that came with the wheel - and "Hey presto" - done!
For anyone wanting to do same: There is about three parts to each side, and they're held together with 4 little plastic locator lugs that come apart easily with a small blade screwdriver, and just be sure to work a bit on all four tabs together so it comes out evenly and doesn't break.
So i now have an HSV wheel, with HSV media button covers and fascia etc, with the original Omega wiring loom behind it, so the illumination matches the rest of the green theme!
Thanks for all your help.
Hi all, just a few things to make life a little easier. 1st I just used a short pair of long nose pliers in the closed position to release the air bag. Pushed the point into the slot and the handles made it a lot easier to lever as your using your whole hand.
2nd why bother buying a Torx bit when an Allen key will do the job just as well. It's about 7mm which is not a standard metric Allen key size but a 9/32 (I think) did the job beautifully. I used a shifter on the end of the Allen key to get the leverage I needed and also used the shifter to re tighten afterwards. No need to go mad with the tension as the bolt is just to stop the wheel sliding off the splines. It's the splines that are doing most of the work but do re apply some thread locker. Also I just turned the wheel 180 degrees without the engine running as it's only half a turn and it's not that hard. If your really worried about it you could always lift the front of the car with a jack. Finally forget the fuse, just disconnect the battery, it only takes seconds to do and then there is no doubts. To my suprise the radio stations didn't need to be reset just the time and date. Bonus. Hope this helps repay some of the debt I owe to the forum for the help I have received in the past.
Will I need to take the airbag off if i want to take the silver accents off my s2 steering wheel?
Yes, you will...
Hey guys and gals, New to the forum but just asking for any advice on the torx screw.. No matter how hard i try it doesn't come undone
My torx screw had a crap load of lock tight on it witch made it quite difficult to do, but jerking it back and forth got it to move.
