Hi guys
Just bought a police pack Omega from the SA government auctions. I asked at my local holden dealer and he said that they come out with the 195kw high output v6's. Is there anyway to tell which motor my car has by looking at the plates under the hood?
Have a look at this. Some of the High Output Engines have slightly different markings such as a badge on the inlet manifold. Check the link below as it has pics of both engines and information.
Holden VE Commodore Specifications
standard engine on the omega, as you can tell by the single exhaust tip on one side, not one on each side like high output engines
The Mad Dutchman
on the build plate what does it say next to engine? LY7 is the high output. if it has the hi output it would have the 5spd auto aswell.
so did u find out if ur is the 195kw iam trying to find out same thing on mine
look on your build plate. if next to engine it says LY7 you have the high output if not you don't.
SAPOL Omegas are ALL 180kw 'stock standard' out of the box.
all u get is lsd diff and fe2 ss suspension
cop cars get the same pads as normal commodores on the VE's
Also they have a calibrated speedo with more incraments on the face plate. And a stage 2 shift kit on the auto's.
If it's the omega it's just a 3.0l sidi, nothing high output about them.
i bought a daily had a screwed diff found out it was a lsd
then looked had a sump bash plate speedo on the dash settings.
$550 and its the best car ive bought so far lol

If you want to know about the engine only, and apart from the obvious vin plate... Search around the front of the heads and see if it's the twin cam heads (4 cam total) you will see a very distinct censor and count 4 for high output or 2 for the standard. The difference between the standard and high output engines is basically the 2cam/4cam set up and some specs.
This should give you physical way to ID the engine *only*.
Im a true commy boy!!!
Excuse me "Modified Gate"Mines a VX.. Also per above. Shift kit? Are you sure... I thought they just moved something in the gearbox to make it drop straight back into second without pushing the button of gear moving... But like I said, mines a VX.![]()
