VE Engine Light

driving home from work the other day and the check engine symbol came up. i pulled over and checked everything out and couldnt understand the problem so i called holden. they asked me to take the car for a drive and to see if i could feel anything different and to call them back. no difference called them back, and they said not to worry about it and hopefully the light will go away in a few days and if it doesnt to bring the car to them.
well they were right, it turned off in a few days but what the hell caused it to turn on in the first place?

could be bad fuel, or computer just shitting itself, let my gf drive by car once (big mistake) and she stalled it pretty badly. Engine light came on and remained on for a whole day then went away. Stupid woman
