g'day guys.

firstly the car is an 07 VE SS Manual with just under 70'000 kms on the clock. fully stock to my knowledge.

ok, so ive recently had a suspension and brake check done by pedders as i was having a knocking noise in the front end and somewhere in another thread someone mentioned to get the check and report done by pedders.

a number of things came up:
brake and clutch fluid need flushing
front strut mount plates shagged
front sway bar links worn (no preload) - anyone care to explain preload?
and rear shocks leaking (require replacement)

just wondering what you guys think i should do. i want to get rid of this front end knock (both sides) and ive had strut top problems on a previous car (which was a vn calais =\) which now that i think about it sounds very similar. but ive read in the recall thread that the G8 had a similar problem and the fix was "Replace Front Lower Control And Caster Arms". so im not totally confident in getting the strut tops/sway bar links replaced if this will not fix the problem.. thoughts?

also re: the rear shocks, im gonna get her lowered soon anyway so ill replace shocks then.

as long as youre aware that pedders suspension checks are renowned for 'finding' lots of 'problems' if you know what I mean - there was an ACA special on it...
take it to another completely different shop and see what they find

Your front end knock will most likely be the stuffed sway bar links.

Pedders make a heavy duty sway bar link kit which helps with this issue.

hey man
i took my car for one of those $15 checks at pedders... $200 after wheel alignment and they still hadnt fixed the problem even though i told them one of the wheels had lost its wheel weight and so was unbalanced... they also said i needed my front bushes changed... took it to another mechanic and he said the bushes were fine and had been changed a while ago so pedders just wanted another $400 out of me
just take it to your usual mechanic and ask him would be my advice

Every car I have taken too pedders the report has always been 2k plus. I mainly go there tho too see what needs doin, Ill take it home do what I can and get the rest done through them. They wanted to charge me $650 for a tail sharft rubber the one that joins to the diff. I bought one from holden for 200 an did it myself. thats on my calais

My Ve has a knock also. I also took it to pedders. They said it was the pwr steer. So need to place it... but also got a 2350 quote. its so hard not to get ripped these days.

thanks guys! tinsnips is this classed as a recall? i see in the recall thread a yank said it was in yankville on the G8 but has it been recalled in Aus? or am i stuck with the cost of getting it fixed? either way i will take it to a local suspension specialist and se what he has to say!

To the OP, No Preload as they are calling it is a fancy word for sloppy. It means if you grab the sway bar and shake it or pull it side to side it will rattle / slide. The rubber bushes should clamp the bar tight enough to stop it rattling but loose enough to let it rotate and flex as you drive over bumps.
Replace the bushes yourself, Holden now sells a revised bush which is better than the original sloppy ones, and costs $15 for the pair. Undo both then replace both and tighten up. Will take 20 minutes out of your weekend.
