Hey all,
I've searched through the forums and on Google and everyone seems to go off topic before we find an answer
I have a 2007 VE omega with the 6 stacker Headunit
The problem is everytime i accelerate a whine is heard from speakers that changes pitch with the revs
I started off with a LOC for about 2 months and then had Phreddy do his RCA mod on the Head unit -still didn't make a difference
I've tried everything from filters on the + cable from the Bat and inline on the RCAs near the Amp, shorter cables, to running it off a new battery outside of the car as well as having 2 battery's(ex-popo) in the boot
Tried 3 different amps, would buying Expensive shielded RCA and Speaker Cables work ?
is there anything else that i may have missed.
i know there are alot of people that have the same issue has anyone found a workaround/solution ?
Thanks
Depends how unbearable it is.
my stereo has a slight whine to it but you can only hear it with the car at idle and volume at 1 or 2.... and you have to know what to look for to hear.
I was told a dry cell battery can help eliminate the whine, make sure you have the power cables and the speaker wires running down opposite sides of the car....
also make sure you earth is really good directly on the chassis (sand the paint off if need be)............ maybe add another earth.
and if its still really bad... maybe try rewiring the back of the head unit...... that sometimes can cause issues if your running a lot of power especially. AND move the LOC closer to the head unit so it changes it to RCA plugs from the HU to the amp, as these are better quality (generally) and will reduce the intereference.
IQ system/ HU speaker wires straight into the LOC with RCA's all the way to the boot where the Amps are.
Who insatlled it ? If a company like JB High Fi did it , it should be up to them to fix it .
If you or a friend installed it , look wich side you put the power leads . Run the speaker lead down one side of the car , and the power leads down the other side . Keep them well away from each other .
Also look at the RCA leads . Got the gold end ones and make sure they are a pretty tight fit .
Try this filter
40 Amp Car Noise Filter - Jaycar Electronics
I had the issue with a previous car. This and a good quality grounding connection sorted it. It all comes down to quality of install. In my experience non-specialist installers don't / cannot take the time to do a good job. I have seen cheap cables twisted together and taped up instead of soldering and heat shrinking, or taking the time to remove panels to conceal and run cables in wiring channels. Not their fault, those boys are ordered to turn cars around fast using cheap cables and connectors. You do get what you pay for. Given how cheap decent audio is nowadays compared to 20 years ago, spend the money on a good installer - its worth it.
BTW, is you amp powered directly off the battery?
Greg, the stop sign!
Are you running any cables from the headunit to the amp down the passenger side of the car?
When I had my splits installed I had my crossovers in the footwells, I got a whining noise from both sets of speakers but it was 10 times worse from the passenger side. I was also told never to run RCA cables down the passenger side because the main battery wire is down that side which will cause 'engine noise'.
ya dont need power cables run, the battery is in the boot but if ya use a loc ya wont need rca's and i know kenwood amps use spekr line in and no buzz what so ever
other amps with line in work fine too
you just need good quality cables and get it wired correctly ie away from any other electronic sources, most go through the door side of the floor trim to the amps etc cus all the wiring is in the centre.
ok thanks guys you have given me some things to try on the weekend
just to clarify what ive done so far
for the left splits i have ran the cabling down the left side of the car ( just removed the trim and ran the cable - ill try and re-run the cabling away from the wire as "Footy" said
right splits are run down the right side
the rca cables are run down the centre console then under the drivers seat to the back where the amps are and the battery
i think on the weekend ill pull all the trim off and try mounting the amp under the passenger seat
and rerun the cables away from any other cabling
ill let you know
Did you read any of the earlier posts????
Your whole post should be done the complete opposite way to the way you have described.
You want the wiring as far away from other wiring as possible!
My car has really next to nothing in Stereo whine, no one can pick up on it. Im the only one that knows its there because i know what to hear for, you have to put your head down next the speaker to hear it. Not one person has got in my car and asked me about the whine its that minimal it just comes down to the quality of the parts and installation really.
