    Default brake squeal

The brakes on my new sv6 are squealing

It's going in for its 3000km service next week. Anything I can get done about this? Bugs the hell out of me

Mine has squealed since day one of owning it. I have done 7500km since and it's slowly going away. Maybe it's just a bad batch of brake pads they gave us.

When I got my SV6 the brakes would squel something cronic!
Took it back after 1500km and they said let them bed in, so I put up with it a bit longer.
By the time my 3000km service was due I was sick of it, so told them to fix it, and they did
It's a simple process, you just have to tell them to fix it.

My brakes didn't stop squealing untill about 7000Kms the squealing was worse if the car was left outside overnight but it doesn't happen anymore. What dealer are you going to?

i think this is a common problem. I changed mine to a set of bendix pads and the squeal went away. It was pretty embarrassing considering the car is relatively new (09 model)

Brake squeal is caused by the pads vibrating against the piston face or the caliper face (outer pad). The misconception that the pad squeals while rubbing the disc face is common.
Brake manufacturers go to great lengths to reduce squeal. Anti squeal plate's that mount between the pad and piston do help a bit. Ensuring the wear face of your pads is parrallel to the pad backing plate is a good quick check.
DBR also make a compound that effectively semi-glue's the pads to the piston/caliper which uses the theory that if it can't move, it can't squeal. It does work but is fiddly to apply.
