Default Air Hammer vs Walkinshaw CAI vs K&N...what are all of these?

    I have bought a VE SV6 09, runs amazingly.

My problem is that, I know all of these mods are meant to improve air flow, thus increasing throttle response and making practically no difference to the power output, but I would rather install these mods to improve fuel consumption and to extend the life of the engine by even a bit .

So can someone please explain to me which of these are actually worth it?

I had a vt with a pod filter put in, I loved the sound of a pod filter and it did make a noticable difference.

The car is under warranty and I do no not want to install anything that will void my warranty, thats why I was going to install just a filter...but one of my friends keeps telling me that regardless of what I install I need to get the car tuned. Is this right?

Are any of these mods worth the money and which one would you recommend?

you don't NEED to get the car tuned - but it will help you get the most out of any modifications.

The big thing that you'll need to consider, being in Melbourne, is that oiled filters are not allowed with VIC Roads. I know that you can get a lukey panel filter that is non-oiled - and the there are a couple of options with OTR filters (for V8s) but I think you'll be very limited in terms of pod filters - I've not seen any non-oiled pods that should be put on a car (doesn't mean there aren't any - I haven't looked very hard)

The warranty issue isn't so important - but if you take the car into a holden dealership, or walkinshaw performance centre, the work will be covered under the holden warranty.

ive got the airhammer in my SV6 and its great! as soon as you drive the car after installing it youll notice the difference, its nothing crazy but definitely improved throttle response and makes the car feel a lot lighter. as for fuel consumption, the computer seemed to think it was better by around 0.5ltr/100km but when i fill up theres not really too much difference. definitely worth it imo

im guessing that has to do with the fire hazard? where abouts can I find out more? Im thinking about getting the air hammer but its pretty expensive compared to the improvements it makes

None of the intakes will really blow the doors out performance wise - you'll get a bit of a gain. The airhammer is actually one of the cheaper options.

As for non-oiled pod filters to suit it, try calling lukey. There used to be an american performance filter that was non-oiled.. can't think of the name off the top of my head and would have no idea if they'd have one to suit. If I can remember it, I'll post an update.

Im not sure about the price , but the Walkinshaw intake is made by SS inductions . Its just walkinshaw stickered and made out of a differant plastic thats not any more thermally efficient than the normal SS one. I have the SS inductions growler on my SV6 it might not be the best power wise but i live near Ormeau QLD and thats where their factory / show room is and i got a good price. Also Im not 100% sure but the Airhammer doesnt seem to have an airbox and in QLD where i live you need an airbox for a pod style filter. Ive seen cops doing guys for not having them. Power wise i doubt there would be more than a KW or two between most of them on the market.
