Default HSV 317 engine temp. query

hi guys i installed a VCM OTR cold air intake for my 317 6.2 about a month ago. i dunno if this is me or not but ive noticed that the engines running a little hotter than usual, for example the oil temps sitting closer to the 125 degrees mark wen it used to be closer to the 100 degrees mark. and the fans a kicking in a little more often too. i was jus wondering if this is the downside to installing the VCM??

When it was installed did they remove some of the bonnet seal on the front? I don't know if it's the same for VCM but I know it's necessary for most OTR's as it can cause the engine to run hotter.

i installed it myself, by bonnet seal do u mean that strip of plastic tucked away that runs across the top of the radiator? i followed exaclty what the instructions told me. Was i not meant to remove it?

No not the strip that runs across the radiator it's the seal around the bonnet i know with the Orssom and Duspeed OTR it's nessesary to remove about 500mm of it however im not sure about the VCM though.

the thin black rubbery tubing that clips onto the underside of the bonnet - follows the contour of the bonnent. You'll need to cut out a section to allow fresh air to flow in under the bonnet at the top of the front grill to allow the VCM OTR to suck in cold air... This might be wats causing your temps to rise.

My oil temp sits at 105 - 107 once hot, if I go climbing large hills for a while it might get to 120.... Engine temp never changes...

Mine sit on 100-110 degrees and only hits 120 if I push it a bit hard, side question what oil pressure does it sit on at 100kph?

k so took the plastic strip off thats attached to the underneath of the bonnet...fans arent turning on but oil temp still sits around 112 degrees, im guessing it must just need a mild tune to compensate for the increased incoming air?

It shouldn't, I have not heard of this happening to others (but I suppose most people that get a VCM OTR also get a tune). If its now at 112 thats not to bad (depends on air temp) Maybe give it a few days see if it settles down - as in if it hasnt been getting the right amount of air flow the ECM may have compensated for it casuing the increase in engine temp.. Let it relearn!.. Just a suggestion.

If it doesn't try contacting VCM and ask for some advice. They do say the OTR can be installed with the need to get a performance tune.

    Cheers
    Phil
