I know this has been discussed many time but new here. I have a 2010 VE SSV auto. Had all the AFM removed when a cam was done, lots of other bits (310RWKW) now. Wondering if it is worth changing the diff ratio and what would be best suited. Just not sure if it is worth spending more money. And if changing the ratio what would be the best way to go, complete new diff or just changing the gears. Any suggestions would help. An old man here going back to my boyhood.
Thanks
Depends what you are looking for and how you want it to run Forrest.
Unless you plan on regular trips to the drags I wouldn't suggest going to low. It may take off a bit harder but you'll be revving too high on the highway and it will guzzle.
Yeah they chew the fuel with shorter diff ratios and because theres more get up and go you spend more time putting the boot in . Depends really on whether your going to take it to the drags alot.
Also some guys have trouble with the auto A6 and shorter diff gears they have gone from 3.9/4.11 back to 3.27/3.46
I went 3.45 and it didn't make much difference to the fuel economy but the take off was noticeably harder.
3.9 or 4.11 is not really suited to the auto that well unless you drag on a regular basis. 3.27/3.45 is perfect for all round plus a bit of fun too, mine is 3.27 and for me it's ideal.
As for what to get, i wouldn't think twice about it, buy a complete diff and be done with it. Very easy to install plus you still have your old one in case you have too much fun and break something.![]()
Isn't it 3.7 not 3.9.
either 3.7 or 3.9, different ratios
Mine is a manual and I upgraded to the HSV 3.7. I sold my 3.45 to a guy with an auto. From what I can understand, the best upgrade for the manuals is to go the 3.7 (or the 4.11 depending on what the car is used for) and the 3.45 for the autos.
