Gday to you all. I am wondering on your thoughts of a sv6 sportswagon on lpg. I currently own a vs wagon that runs on lpg which goes fine. I have asked my gas mechanic about the conversion and told me he can do it as he has just done a vz gen III ute on lpg which went great. I am just keen for your thoughts on the matter. He told me that I can still get the donut tank put in and have the spare wheel hooked on the side of the boot. I know the boot is a lot smaller but still if I am making 400kms on a 46l tank now highway driving I am wondering what the benefits will be like running lpg through a 3.6 sidi engine.
if you are going to put gas on a sv6 use a injector system be it vapour or better still liquid. i wouldnt go with a old mixer type on a new ve personaly.
thats not to say it wouldnt work.
there are systems out there for the alloytec i havent experianced them myself but have heard mixed reveiws do your research on whatever system you chooses
please adjust the settings on your sarcasim detector it will be needed
Yeah mate my gas mechanic would never put a older system on an alloytec because they run like shit. Like the ventri system. Supposly the vapour are really good and they hardly ever backfire compared to the ecotecs on the older system.
There's a few guys on here running JTG liquid injection systems on their 8s with impressive results - not sure about the 6s though.
you would hope whatever system you put one dosent backfire at all because you could blow out a few hundred dollors of sensors every tim it did.
the new vapour system are deffinatly very good and the liquid systems even better
please adjust the settings on your sarcasim detector it will be needed
I just had my car converted over to LPG 2 weeks ago. (2007 VE Lumina)
Fuel consumption is a bit higher. But the price is halved. Drove 311.85km for only $27.51. (Not including the little squirt of fuel when you start it. I wait for it to click over before driving because I'm a tightarse.)
No loss in power. To be completely honest, it feels as if the accelerator is MORE responsive since getting the conversion.
Cost me $4,300 before the rebate and the service technician said it was the top of the line model. (Impco.) The same as the factory conversions.
So I assume it's liquid injected? Forgot to ask :P
Not allowed by law i think to put a mixer system on a car after 2004 build (vy) i think?, plus the alloytec, sidi and lsx engines have a plastic inlet manifold which you would risk blowing to the shithouse everytime it backfired.

I have a SIDI sportwagon (3L) and would be very interested in hearing further info on this. As far as I was aware, the SIDI's dont have an off the shelf LPG conversion available for them yet. I think Holden is still selling LPG cars with the old clunker alloytecs in them.
Mate with the new gas systems they never backfire. Well just seeing a gen III vz v8 get converted. The results look great.
Alright guys, lets clear some stuff up.
My dads been doing LPG conversions for 20 years, and I know most of the stuff behind it all. As mentioned before, any car after 2005, cannot be fitted with the old mixer type lpg conversion, it is against the law. As for the SIDI engines, there is NO kit available for the car to be converted to gas, only VE commodores prior to 2010 and are NOT SIDI can be converted. These can be converted either using the vapour system * the system used by many * or the liquid injection system, which is the one holden dealership uses, but only a very minor number of conversionists can do it. When it comes to the vapour system, there is about a 8% drop in power compared to Petrol, which is much better than the 20% drop you get from the old mixer types. There are many systems out there, but as also mentioned above, the Impco system is great, and for the VE's I would recommend the Sprint Gas system aswell, which are American and Italian designed respectively. As for backfiring, the mixer types where highly reliant on clean leads and spark plugs * anyone who has had a mixer type system would know this * but the vapour injections use direct injection to the manifold, the injectors are drilled in, and hence acts like petrol, this eliminates backfiring. As for fuel economy, you wont get as much as petrol, but you will make a massive saving on the long run (usually over a year, the cost can be covered, specially with the government rebate). Most importantly, with vapour injection systems, the system can be managed through a computer and adjustments can be made. For this reason conversionists only use one or two types of vapour injection systems (The software for computers are quite expensive). This disadvantages customers because not all lpg companies will be able to help you with your vapour injection system if a problem occurs. You will most likely have to go back to the same company you got it converted from. As for pricing, Vapour Injection ranges between 3800 - 4500, depends on the type of car ( sedan or wagon ) and even the engine, V6 or V8. Also whether a donut tank or cylinder tank is used, which then consideration for the spare wheel needs to be taken into account. Liquid Injection is quite new, It uses 2 Fuel Pumps, It is much more dear, and as mentioned before, only a small number of companies use it. The Fuel economy is slightly better than vapour, but personally I don't believe the cost of it outweighs the benefits of it. Obviously unless your buying a LPG Omega, which comes factory fit with that system. If anyone is interested in converting their car, I know just the place in Melbourne :P
Hope this cleared most things.
p.s If anyone is considering getting their car converted, the government rebate is reducing after the 30th of this month from $1500 to $1000. (I know this, because i'm the one who does all the paper work for the conversions at my dads place ). So you might need to be quick, cause I know at my dads place, he is nearly booked for the whole month.
