Cool What to buy? SS-V, SS-V Redline OR Maloo? All brand new

Hey all, I'm new to buying Aussie cars, so far I've only owned Jap cars. I'm looking to buy a brand new ute through my business. I'm tossing up between the SS-V series 2, SS-V series 2 Redline, or the Maloo R8.
Realistically I'd LOVE a Maloo, but is it really worth spending the extra cash for it? It's not to be used for work other then occasionally (im a truck driver). I am getting rid of my toy aswell to save for a house so I'd like to be able to take the ute for the occasional track day for abit of fun...
Also what's the go with the thunder? As I said I'm abit of a noob with Aussie cars lol
    Thanks in advance
    Christian

If your going to do any mods just get an SS, if you are only going to do power mods get an SS-V, My opinion on the Redline is that its a waste of money for the shitty looking mags and brakes(basically). The maloo is the go but i couldnt justify the extra money, for half the extra price you would have one mean SS ute or one fairly mean SSV ute IMO

Maloo... it has the TR6060 gearbox. Worth the extra cash just for that and the brakes.

Thanks for the replies... I do really want the Maloo, any idea the difference in insurance costs? Or where I can get a good price on one?

I do really want the Maloo for the ls3 and better brakes, that new edi computer looks pretty cool aswell and it comes standard with a hard cover and reverse camera among other things but yes it is pretty expensive. Anyone know where I could get the best deal? I'm in Sydney. Either Liverpool, chullora or castle hill?

I'd be getting the thunde/redline and spending abit of the money I saved on exhaust/OTR/tune/lowering but if ya can afford it go for it, the maloos are damn sexy.

To be honest, for me at least, the Maloo's biggest selling point is its gearbox. I'm on my 5th T56 box in this car, and won't buy another car that uses this box. The TR6060 is sooo much better!

Best deal I could find in Sydney when I bought mine was at Waitara - but it's the same chain of dealerships as chullora, so try there. I'm not a fan of Castle hill and don't know Liverpool.

Tinsnips, you gotta admit though, you've never had much luck with your car haha. The clutch giving out is a much bigger problem then the gearbox.

true.. but there have been quite a lot of gearbox replacements in the SS models - all with similar issues to mine.

oh really? I didn't think it was a big issue?? I've got the aisin gearbox, had no issues, thought that would have been worse than the SS's

Lol wow! 5 gearboxes? I think I'd have burnt the car by now haha what about diffs? I have heard the SS diffs don't exactly enjoy a hard life? The thing is, it's going thru my business so I don't really want to modify it too much as that wi more then likely come out of m pocket, and I don't want to void the warranty on a brand new car... In saying that, if I got a Maloo, in like 3years once I'm over the power id like the possibility of supercharging it loll

If warranty is an issue for you, you can get all the work done through walkinshaw performance and the work is covered by holden factory warranty - including supercharging and driveline. The diff is ok, but they don't like dealing with a lot of extra power and copping a regular belting. My diff has had some minor adjustments, but nothing special. Yeah... the gearbox issue is - frustrating -. In a sense though, I'm a bit lucky in that I haven't had the sticking clutch issue (it did slip though, so has been replaced twice - including pedal assembly - which means I now have the revised model with no issues!).

I am pretty busy this weekend but I want to find time to go down to the dealer and hopefully drove both the SS and the Maloo and hopefully work out a deal! I want a Maloo but yes they are very expensive but my god look at those brakes haha either way I want one asap! Anyone know the best time to purchase? Ie any special sales coming up soon?

The end of the month is always a good time to purchase - i.e now!

Dealers will do better deals to meet monthly sales targets...

    ^ this.

end of month always better, but two periods of the year where its definitely a good time.... END OF JUNE and END OF DECEMBER.

Go get your Maloo mate! pics please .

Going into dealerships with finance already sorted and not needing a test drive and salesman working hard will definitely be in your best interests.
Shop around, walk in and say "I know what I want, just need to talk price".
    Salesmen love that .
If one dealer doesnt do a great deal, go to another.
Spend a weekend finding the right place (even if all over Sydney), and the time you spend getting dealers to beat each other will be well worth it.

I sure hope I can justify the large price tag lol cause I want one badly but I'm already paying for 130k truck out of my business... I need to make money to pay myself aswell hahahaha

The thunder seems very good bang for buck tho? Anyone know why it's so cheap? Or what it's missing to justify the low price? It's 8k cheaper then the normal SS V, 10k cheaper then the Redline and 23k cheaper then the Maloo

from what I can tell, the Thunder is just a regular SS with the S1 ssv wheels painted a different colour and some leather bits on the seats (leather bolsters look crap in my opinion). Which probably explains why it's the same price as a regular SS. The redline edition is a joke with the utes - and I really don't see the extra value in the SSVs either, now they all come with screens. For me, it would be between the SS (not necessarily the Thunder either) and the Maloo.

Considering you said you didn't want to modify it for a while, the upgraded shocks, better gearbox, million times better brakes, great seats, great steering wheel, pentagon wheels, hard lid, reverse camera and sensors and the 6.2 litre motor make the price difference worth it and helps you ignore the fact that the E3 maloo is quite ugly - though definitely the better of the two cars from the driver's seat when stock.
