Default help, mods for my ve ssv

    hey everyone,

Im new to modifying car and would appreciate if anyone can give some advice on what to do to my car

Ive recently got a VE SS-V 2007 commodore, and im wanting to start doing some mods to her.

what are some mods that I can start to do?
what type of brands for that specific mod?
    what sizes? i.e 2.5 or 3" exhaust?
some prizes for that mod and brand?

ANY HELP WILL BE GREAT, because at the moment I dont really have a clue about brands and what to do..

    thanks alot

OTR cold air intake - brands: Duspeed, VCM, Orssom seem to be the main ones used here

Exhaust, headers + cats - X-force and KPM are the more popular ones on here, X-force is good if ur working on a small budget, KPM if ur budget is a bit bigger. there r lots of other brands im sure ppl can reccomend. As for 2.5 or 3", consensus is 3" if ur gonna look at a new cam or Forced induction, otherwise 2.5 is sufficient. u can still get a 3" u get a liitle bit of a deeper note and u wont lose any performance (some might argue though), also pacemaker are great for headers

prices can vary alot so just ring around

use the search function on these forums and u will find plenty of info on all mods/brands ive mentioned

+1 for the above mods. Best value for money mods. Will get good power gains, better fuel economy on the Hwy, it wll actually start to sound like a V8, plus put a nice smile on face too.

Also think about whether you want to spend the extra $$ for a full stainless exhaust system or just go mild steel. Stainless will last longer in general.

An underdrive pulley is also something to consider too, but won't deliver too much more power.

Be warned, mods become addictive....................Name: bd2.gif

Yeah thanks alot for all the info mate, just wondering can i click something somewhere on this website to 'watch a thread'because i keep having to search for my on thread!

If i get a OTR for it, will it suck in water whilst driving? Ive heard they can do that?

    What tunes would use recommend?

    And what about more mods?

OTR's and water. Never an issue with my ORSSOM. Drove in biblical rain in western QLD last Aug, not a drop. VCM, Duspeed and Ramjet owners will also have their own comments based on experience.

Tune is what you want. Tell the tuner how you want / like to drive the car and they customise a tune for you. If you are running an auto, the tuner can also remap the gear box to make gear changes snapper etc. Just talk to the tuner and they will take care of you.

More mods: How big is ya wallet. Cam, forced induction, stroked, nitros, turbo and the list goes on and you haven't even gotten out of the engine bay. Diff, suspension, rims and it just keeps on going down a very slippery slope!

    Good luck!

You still haven't said what your budget is or if your thinking cam, FI etc, that will make it alot easier for people to help with your questions.
Look in the ve rides section and check out other peoples mods and what power they get, that could help you decide what your after.

Mafless tunes are awesome. If you go for a Duspeed OTR , make sure you get a package deal from Steve at Oztrack with one of his mail order tunes to suit. Then go for Pacemaker 4-1 extractors ; Hi flow cats and a 3 inch exhaust... You cant go wrong !

Check out the Oztrack website for info http://www.oztracktuning.com/. Give Steve a ring and have a chat with him, he knows his Shit !!
Yes my commodore has Chev badges; Yes i know its a Holden; No i dont give a F**k what you think...

The filters in OTRs are very effective, so dust isn't an issue, assuming it's fitted correctly. As for water, don't drive it through a flood - but they're designed in a way so that water drains out of them rather than catching in them - the better designs are at least.

green machine would you recommend duspeed/orrsom/ or ramjet? i like the look of the ramjet otr and it looks like you dont have to cut the bonnet seal... do mafless tunes suit all of these otr's?
sorry if i sound dumb as ####, but Ive never worked on cars before, but it seems like use know alot, so teach me hahaha!

Of the three you've mentioned, I'd go with the Dus - it is one of the best flowing units on the market. The whole idea is to make the most air available to the motor, and the Dus does this well by slipping down infront of the radiator to scoop up air, as well as through the grille. My personal favourite is VCM but the Dus is excellent. Both VCM and Dus utilise some of the largest panel filters on the market, so you really can't go wrong with either. Also, both are suitable for MAF less tuning. VCM is the only one I can think of that will suit both MAF and MAFless.

Mine is stock until the gearbox issues are sorted (if they're sorted). But I'm sold on the VCM - mainly because I intend to keep the MAF, though I think Dus is, or will be, releasing a MAF version of their intake.

The tune maximises the engine's efficiency/performance buy altering it's electronic management. The difference between MAF and MAFless is simply whether or not the MAF sensor (Mass Air Flow) is retained. In the past, the MAF has been a source of significant restriction of air flow, but it's bigger and much less restrictive in the VEs, which means MAF tuning is becoming more popular in tuning workshops - partially at least because it's illegal to remove the MAF.

Ramjet OTR can do MAf or Mafless aswell. they are really good, ugly but are really good. If i had t odo mine again id probably go VCM

    Exhaust - i would go for Sureflo headers + 5" ballistic cats - 2.5" or 3" HM s/s catback
That combo works really well and sound awesome and form memory they will cost you about 3K, the best exhaust/sound for the money.

KPM is over priced for what it is... and I DONT KNOW IF ITS TRUE BUT I HEARD THAT THEY ARE STARTING TO MAKE THEM IN CHINA - just a rumour i've heard
