I've been trying to find photos of VE's that have been lowered in varying configurations.
I cant seem to find any,
ie im about to lower my calais and thinking about SSL front and rear but id love to see what it looks like. It currently has FE2's and theres approx a 60mm gap from tyre to guard.
Another question ive got is, how much rougher will it be going to SSL from FE2, which will probably be 30-40mm lower from what I can find online.
If I keep current model shocks will they bottom out? (I know you can leave them on with SSL) will it keep the ride smoother than a short stroke?
I'm going Pedders GSR sports ryder struts all round in mine next thursday to match up with my sports ryder springs. I'm doing this because mine is bottoming out at the front. Yours will be a tad lower than mine in you go SSL so get yourself some shorter shocks to go with the springs and also some bump stops. As for the ride being as smooth, the lower you go the stiffer the ride gets, goes with the territory.
Yeah ive just got a VE and moved on from my VS. The VS I had lowered with Pedders springs and that was shocking, go over a lot of bumps and the wipers would turn on.
I dont want a super rough ride. Im guessing my VS would be equivalent to SSSL which is why Im looking on the VE to maybe not go the ultra and just SSL, an inch or so lower than FE2.
People have different opinions on what to use. I've used pedders in all my cars and like the ride. I've been in cars fitted with kings and found them too stiff. I'm in the same boat with not wanting a rough ride but i like the ride mine has with the sports ryder springs so hopefully the gsr struts will make the car a joy to drive. Having said that, i'm expecting the ride to be a little stiffer than what it is now.
mate King springs for the ve's is the link for you..
If yours is a v8 it will sit similar to mine.. doesent bottom out and is fine to drive on stock shockers.. (ssl back sssl front) equivelent to ssl all round on a v8 apparently

^ looks good
Cheers thanks heaps,
That looks good.
Ive a V6.
I'm going to get the GT short stroke shocks rather than keep standard I think.
For comfort tho is that the wrong move to make?
Iv got SSSL (Super low front & Ultra low Rear in the SV6) king springs all round in my SV6 & the ride is fine & im also using standard shocks....
7000km done so far and everything is still perfect
I WISH MY GRASS WAS EMO SO IT WOULD CUT ITSELF
Would standard shocks be firmer or GT short stroke?
I read that the GT shocks are designed to be more comfortable and softer when using lowering springs.
heres a pic of mine on 19's with Ultra Lows in the back and super lows in the front
i think the 6's sit differently to the 8's anyways coz the engine is heavier etc
also keep in mind that i dont have the same rear bumper as a calais in this pic....
Edit: This was the day i got it lowerted so the springs have settled about 2cms now...and also, i have an ssv rear bar now and because the rear bar now extends lower to the ground than the omega bar did the car seems alot lower.....
Wow that looks nice.
I love the red on the rims, really makes it standout
cheers mate, something abit different, if i could do it again i wou;d get 20's though
also, dont be scared to go ultra's, they dont seem to drop the VE's very low compared to how low they used to drop previous models in the past..... cars seem to look a lot nicer the lower they are![]()
I don't know where you heard that its good to put more than sl's on your standard shocks, but if you want them to get damaged in a eariler stage and produce less life then i hope your up for paying more in repairs than if you were to just buy aftermarket shocks (which are reasonably affordable).
You might feel that the driving is fine but, as others can't feel how you feel when your in pain sometimes, exaclty the same way you can't feel how the car is feeling when you are pressuring it...
Ive pretty much made up my mind, SSL springs with GT short stroke. I can get the shocks hell cheap direct from factory so cost isnt the issue. As my car has done 100k im looking at replacing the shocks regardless, just wasnt sure which to go for the smoother ride.
My lowered VS is shocking for roughness and so rough the front end damaged real quick.
I have pedders in my SSV - ride is as comfy as..
